Recover lost data?

With Partition magic I created a new partition from D. I named it E and filled it with music. While running norton speed disc it said there was something wrong with an extended partition and wanted norton disc doctor to repair it, did so without making a backup( bad idea) suddenly I didnt have an E part anymore. With PM I could see the unused part so I created a new with same size and named it E. But its empty of course. Is there any chance to recover the data??

I'm a little confused by what you mean (I don't have Norton so I don't really know what you'r talking about). But if you mean what I think you mean (ie. deleted a partition), then all the data that was there is gone. Plain and simple.

did you happen to have made a norton image of the drive? If so, u could try norton's "unformat.exe" (DOS utility).

There is a way ... I know the FBI can do it ... and I think they have done it after floods destroyed computer equipment, and people needed to recover vital files .... I'm not sure what it costs, but I'm pretty sure it is more than that data is worth to you....

Without having some tool that can scan the harddrive without using the FAT, and can reconstruct the files bit by bit, no matter how faint the magnetic resonance.... I don't think you can do this...

Andrew99, a company called ontrack does this too, but there fees start at $1000 and go up from there.

pebe..dont use norton speed disk anymore, its bbbaadd, even norton disk doctor does more bad then good. from what you said it doesnt sound hopefull, sorry.

I found a program named Easy Recover pro and managed to recover the partition, thanx to Jon at overclockers forum.

pebe--For future reference. Powerquest makes a program called Lost and Found. I believe you can download it for free, and it will show you what files you can recover.

I've had several friends use it, with almost total success. One, let NAV repair, when he knew he should have chosen NOT REPAIR.

BTW, Speed Disk is fine. M$ft defrag is a joke.

I just had a problem similar to yours i guess. My comp crashed and now it shows my drive, but won't let me into it. Scandisk says the drive has a FAT error. Where can i find Easy Recover Pro or Lost and Found. I just spent half an hour looking but culdn't find it anywhere. Powerquest's site doesn't show L&H as a download or a product being sold while there are reviews and retail packages for sale.

strife321--You're right. For as good as their products are, PQ sure has a lame site....and, always have had.

I think the reason we can't find it, is because it has been integrated into one or more of their product lines. I'm thinking it is in the newer version of PM. But, I'm not sure. Let me check with a fellow Anandtecher.

BTW, I do know a person who has some legal, OEM, licensed versions of PM Pro and DI Pro, and made them available to us in the past at a very nice price. PM me if you want me to check with him.

Anyone know what L&F has been incorporated into?

sigh.. my story just got waaay worse.. i found this thread because i too had a problem with my fat table on one of my drives and couldn't get back some important data. Well, after using various programs, i recovered most of what i really wanted. I thought i would just format the bad drive and go on, but it wouldn't format. And incidently before this, i had switch my drive from udma66 to my udma33. I forgot that in DOS that would switch my drive (originally D) to C as the 33 come first. So i did a DOS format of my D, which was originally my C!!!

Now i need to recover the data from C to get my recovered data from D.. sigh..

I am inexperienced in recovering lost data from deleted partitions. However, AFAIK as long as it hasn't been written over the data it is still recoverable - by someone, somehow.
