What do you drink/eat to cool off during the summer? I need some ideas. I need something other than water, ice cream, or beer. Even better if it fills you up.

i only drink water really for cold drinks so i cant suggest more than to add some lemon to it? also, i have read suggestions to take some cubed watermelon, freeze it and use it in water to add a little more flavor.

as far as food items; freeze pops. any cold fruit like grapes, watermelon, oranges. also, yogurt with fruit. a nice chilled salad. gazpacho (which i have never eaten, but people seem to refer to it often for a 'cool summer food'). smoothies, maybe?

There is VERY little cooling off to be done in this weather (in northeast at least).

It's been HOT this summer.

fruit smoothie made w/condensed milk FTW!
that will fill you up. 1000 calories in a can of condensed milk.

I eat chips with a hot salsa. The salsa is chilled but with the spice it can get me sweating there by promoting cooling. Bonus if you eat it in the shade with a fan on you. Frozen margaritas compliment it tremendously.

cranberry juice, frozen can of concentrated OJ, and vodka... stir, freeze, and you end up with a vodka slushie that you can scoop out.

Mojitos, margaritas and piña coladas. If it has a Spanish name, it's probably refreshing. Caipirinhas are delicious too, but I never order them because that name is a fucking nightmare when you're a few drinks deep.

I've been making a lot of sangria since realizing that I can't tell the difference between fresh versus frozen (not canned) fruit.

bag of frozen sliced peaches, bag of frozen strawberries, slice up an orange, and add white wine. (as opposed to having to peel fresh pieces and dice up a pound of strawberries)

My wife makes a "ghetto" sangria. any open bottle of red and some fresca over ice. No prep time and it doesnt taste half bad.

the main difference is in the texture but it doesn't matter for sangria.

My wife makes a "ghetto" sangria. any open bottle of red and some fresca over ice. No prep time and it doesnt taste half bad.
also known as "mezz e mezz" (half and half) around here, merlot wine + gazosa (lemon flavour) (not that stuff with artificial sweeteners which fresca is according to wiki).
They've been making gazosa at least since the 1800s so I guess that recipe is pretty old too.

Nothing to do with sangria though since there's no fruit.

Alcohol is bad for thirst though, it's dehydrating.
I mainly drink water.
In the summer I eat the same stuff mostly but the risotto and the polenta have to be abandoned.
Cold pasta with cherry tomatoes, mozzarella or tuna, basil and olive oil + pecorino or parmesan (pecorino (= sheep version of parmesan) is preferable with the tuna version imho) always tastes good and is refreshing and juicy.

Iced tea, cucumber and tomato salad with balsamic, gazpacho, greek yogurt, and my wife makes absolutely awesome sangria.
