huh...well, does anyone know if those Rosewill or Apollo cards are any good? cuz they use the round heatsink and are cheap, but i really want good quality, so i wanted leadtek, but i might not be able to afford it.
good to know this. approximately how much is the shipping cost to return defective product to online retailer? says i want to return video card to newegg. i want to calculate my overall cost between buying refurb product and have to send it back to retailer once, and buy a new unopened box.
Here's how I see it. When you buy a refurbished product, especially from an auction where it would be difficult and costly to return, you are taking a huge gamble and have no idea whether the item was actually refurbished, what condition it is in, and whether the problem that led to the items return was accurately diagnosed and fixed (perhaps the problem goes deeper than what it appeared to be on the surface and was only partially fixed).
For some insane reason though, people are willing to pay a near-new price for refurbished products. I'm always amazed at what the refurbished computers go for at places like uBid and CompUSAauctions.
I've also received Newegg refurb stuff that didn't appear to be tested at all.
It was a motherboard with a big burned spot on it and a cap was loose in the bag with the motherboard...must have melted off.
If the visual burn spot wasn't good enough, the loose cap and smell should have given them enough clues that they shouldn't try to resell that one.
