REINSTALLING 2000 PRO ON REFORMATTED DESKSTAR

I had a win2000 system that ran fine for years and then one day it wouldn't boot. This was about a year ago and I forget the details but I did get a refurb MB from abit. Now I've picked up the task of getting this sucker running. I removed the boot info and low level formatted the HD using IBM utility. Booted from win 2000 cd and started installation. Goes ok until screen after "win2000 will now install" where you get choices to 1 continue install, 2 repair or 3 quit.
It's like my keyboard no longer works and I can do nothing else but reset computer to escape. Any thoughts?

Is it a ps2 or usb keyboard? I would use a ps2 and if you are, try another one just in case.

It is a ps2 and I did try another keyboard, also a ps2. The keyboard definitely works until this point and then maybe?

Does anyone know what is on the screen at the bottom bar immediately before the area where my system is stopping the install? Something flashes too quickly for me to read and keyboard, I think, is one of the words.
