This error has been coming up off and on over the past few weeks when I try and send an e-mail from Outlook. It actually comes in the form of a message from "System Administrator" in my inbox immediately after I try and send a message:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: asdf
Sent: 7/24/2005 4:40 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'xxxxxx@xxxxxx.xx.com' on 7/24/2005 4:40 PM
530 5.7.1 Relaying is not permitted: xxxxxx@xxxxxx.xx.com

Any ideas? It's getting very annoying.

Hi.. 'xxxxxx@xxxxxx.xx.com' ???? is this really what it said. or did you put that in so we dont know who you send to? if thats really what it says thats nuts and could be from a virus or spyware or something..

anyway. can you send email using another pc using your email acct your having issues in this outlook? this is office outlook right? if so try setting up the acct under outlook express and see if it gives the same errors. this will narrow down if its outlook only on this pc or if its your email address. does this pc your trying to email from have internet access without a problem when you cant email? one more thing. if this occurs even using your email acct on another pc. then its your email company, try to talk to them about it at that point. good luck, and let us know of any progress etc.

I just x'ed it out.

I have a constant connection, so it's not that and I doubt it's the company because I can go through my webmail just fine. It's an IMAP server, if that helps at all.

I thought it was my firewall at first (some ZoneAlarm e-mail protection thing), but I took it down and it still didn't work.

Very likely it is a result of strong anti-spam measures taken by your addressee's ISP.

Take a look at your "Reply To:" settings. If it is a diffrent e-mail account, then they may be blocking it. You may not be "signed" into your ISP. Try to recieve your mail, and then try to send something out. If that works, you might want to call your ISP and see if there is something they can do.

Many ISPs do not permit relaying mail (sending mail to somewhere off their network via their SMTP server) when you are not physically on their network, for anti-spam/anti-spoofing reasons. My ISP (Cox) is one such provider. I cannot send mail to non "@cox.net" addresses via smtp.central.cox.net unless I am connected via a Cox residential cable modem. If I try it anywhere else, I get "530 - Relaying messages to domain.com Prohibited" or somesuch.

You may have to either send your mail using your ISP's webmail interface (if they have one), or else use a free Web-based e-mail service such as Hotmail or Gmail.

In your e-mail settings there is an option that says something along the lines of 'My outbound server requires authentication." Turn this on. Likely it uses the same username/pw that you use to get your mail with, so use that selection.

Yeah, that worked.

I already had "My outbound server requires authentication" on, but I turned on "Log on using secure authentication" and it worked.

Thanks.
