my mx518 that i've had for about 2.5 years is slowly acting up. it shuts off randomly and i would just need to replug it in and everything works again. So while its still working i'll be on a hunt for new gaming mouse. Well i'm not really extremely into gaming i just play CS all the time. I never use the on the fly senstivety. I just love the 5 button mouse setup for internet surfing.

Is there any better mouse for $60 right now? I dont really mind if its wireless or not. Both work for me as my keyboard is wireless logitech.

Get a G5 rev. 2, same thing as yours, but a little better. Now with 2 thumb buttons! BTW, corded ftw...wireless lags and runs out of batteries at inopportune times.

another vote for the g5 if you get a new mouse. not just because how good it performs, those mice are indestructible!. i have beaten, dropped, smashed and hammered mine to no end for over a year now, it works like new! this mouse has stood up when all my other gear is failing all around it, highly, HIGHLY recommended!

IIRC, the MX518s have a 3 year warranty, talk to Logitech.

even with no receipt ?

You can send it in w/o a receipt.

calling them monday. i did see the 3 year warranty. I honestly dont think the mx518 has been release for 3 years yet.

I emailed them about a broken headset and they said mail them the old one and they will replace it, well I threw it away. They ended up giving me a new one.

WHAT?! /sprints to NewEgg

edit: looks like they're only available so far directly from Logitech for $70. Hmmm. Looks like my venerable MX500 is sticking around for a little while longer.

Heh, venerable is good way of describing the MX500. Mine has all the black paint chipped off the metal Logitech center logo. There's a permanent indentation in the thumb area. Enough of the silver paint has worn off the two main buttons that you can see the outline of my index and middle fingers. One of the mouse feet is missing. And I think the bottom label fell or peeled off at some point.

Still works like the day I got it though , so I guess I can't complain.

This says you're wrong. >.>

I dunno how old that is, but the new G5 looks nothing like that. Its a whole different color and it does indeed have 2 thumb buttons. The color is a bluish blackish color, it looks really cool and it has this gritty texture that you have to feel to appreciate, it feels really good. I got mine at best buy for about $50, not a great deal but it seems like this thing will last me forever, its built much much better than my last mouse...which was the one that came with the MS Wireless 4000 package or something to that effect.

Logitech is awesome.

They sent me three new MX518s to replace the two MX518s & MX510 that'd crapped out over the past couple years, & they didn't even make me send back the old ones.

I just had to scan the receipts.

Only bad thing is that i know the MX518s they sent will likely end up with the same issues over time.

Well thanks to alll of you for informing me of the warranty.

I just saved myself $50 on a new mx518/g5 mouse.

They just warranty replaced mines. 5-10 days. I get to keep the old one, it somewhat works.

SOmething that makes me wonder but i think i'm asking for too much is, this "new" mouse i'm getting does that have a 3 years or maybe a 1 year warranty on it? i expect something in the lines of w/e i had left on my 1st mouse which is about 60 days or maybe a stardard 90 day or 1 year.

Has anyone ever asked for a warrnty on a warranty?

Knowing Logitech, I'd say you have another 3 years.

before u buy anything u should call up logitech, they have good customer service and will prob replace it.

if not, u should go fot the g5 if u dont mind the wire, the g7 is what i have and its great but the battery only lasts like 48 hours with normal use

Get Logitech on the line and get a replacement. As far as it comes to replacements they are the best out there. My MX1000 started having issues with the right click button and they promptly sent me out a new one.
