replacing server hardware

im running my home server on an old Dell T100, 2008R2. i want to update server hardware.
how do i transfer ALL data to the new box? (if that's even possible)?

Depends. If the hardware is fairly compatible (Intel to Intel, for example) just clone the old hard drive onto the new one and update drivers as necessary.

My favorite cloning tool right now is Easeus Todo Backup.

It depends on what you're updating and how much data you have. Here are a few examples.

A) If it's just CPU, motherboard and RAM then you don't need to do anything except reinstall Windows (hopefully you have your vauable data NOT on the windows partition).

B) If you are buying a new PC then setup the new how you want it. Then transfer all the data over the network to the new PC

C) If you are buying new HDDs then you have two options.
a. Leave the old storage connected and connected the new storage- Then transfer the data from old to new (if you have enough sata ports)

b. If you don't have enough sata ports you would need to transfer the data to a temporary storage location, then copy it back again.

i have RAID1 on the old box.
and i'll have RAID1+0 on the new one.
so i dont think drive cloning is an option for me.

i also have data on the same partition as the windows.

so i guess my only option is the do data transfer accross the 2 boxes.

any software can assist me with this?

I know at times I have had a extra drive available just to make the process go more quickly. A middle man, if you will.

So clone array in original computer to extra drive, then set up array and clone extra drive to array in new computer. This could also be beneficial because you could use the extra drive as the "ginea pig" to make sure the new computer will boot on the old installation before you get to the process of getting everything on the new array.
