FYI, the Republicans got the white house, you are correct...but lets always remember that most Americans actually voted for Gore. The only real reason that you won is because of our antiquated political process.

I do predict that the cyclical thing will occur in 2004(putting a Democrat back in office), not because of the Democrats superior leadership capabilities, but rather because Bush is such an a**wipe, as he is proving already with his decisions in office.

Though I found your response to be mildly humorous(though somewhat on a Wrestlemania level of intelligence), I feel from the remainder of your comments that you are somewhat bitter. Relax, the Republicans won: you can let up the liberal-bashing for a while. And you can try to remember that most of the Democratic base is much more conservative than you and your fellow Republican propagandists would have anyone believe.

As for your comments on the Paula Jones thing, I'd hardly say that you could call her a credible witness. The fact is that what disgusts most Americans is the fact that the Republican Propagandists set out to get Clinton &quot;anyway they could.&quot; I believe that they should pay as large of a price in our moral judgments as Clinton.

I'll probably kick myself for being serious here, since it started off as a humorous thread, but it does have the attention of both sides of the political isle at the moment.

Look at the Democrat's voter base. The ones that don't need to be &quot;won over&quot;. All minorities, gays, unions, pro choice and feminists. Their platform is built on giving this base all that they desire for no charge to them at all. &quot;The rich&quot; will foot the bill, so vote for me! Also, we'll pass special laws to &quot;protect&quot; or give you a leg up. That base is sewn up forever more!

Some of those laws are related to sexual harassment and the hostile workplace. They pass those laws, shove them down all of our throats, then proceed to lambaste people like Clarence Thomas and Bob Packwood with them. Hey, the law is the law, right? Oh, except when old Bill decides that they don't apply to him. He panders to his voter base by passing the sexual harassment laws and then proceeds to ignore them. The fact that he got hung by his own petards is just... too... RICH!

The other funny thing, if you think about it, is that most folks reading this aren't radically left or right. If we were to homogenize all the core beliefs of everybody here, the result would probably be a straight Libertarian point of view. The funny part is that were evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans, yet even a casual examination of the facts show that the Libertarian issues are 90% mirrored by the GOP platform! Go figure...

That is a tad misleading MOST generally implies an overwhelming majority. In truth the statement should read that a fraction of 1% more voters voted for Gore than for Bush. At least as far as we can tell thats what happened but I am not convinced anyone can say for certain.

Actually, we have no idea what the popular vote was, there are over 1 million uncounted absentee ballots in California alone because the state was won by a margin greater than the number of absentee ballots cast. Most states only count absentee ballots if the margin of victory is less than the number of outstanding absentee ballots.

The amount that Gore was ahead in the popular vote is less then the margin of error of the polls. It really does not matter anyway since the President is elected by the electoral college.

The only report I have seen of the disputed ballots in Florida shows Pres. Bush gaining more votes then Gore when they were counted once again. That throws out the argument that the USSC put Bush into office.

Ok, forget the fact that Clinton is a sexual predator, how does anyone explain the fact that he sold pardons to rich Democratic contributors.

Zenmervolt - I linked to the official CA elections site quite a while ago showing that all the absentee ballots were counted. I do not think that absentee ballots are not counted.

The whole arguement over who had the most votes in the popular vote is silly.

1) The Presidency is not decided by the popular vote

2) More Americans did not vote than did vote, so &quot;most&quot; did not vote for Gore, most didn't vote at all.

If you're going to play with vote numbers, then more people voted for someone other than Gore than voted for Gore. So Gore was rejected by the people who did vote (same applies to Bush).

If the Republicans can make any sort of dent at all into the black vote which is almost completely Democrat, then they will win by a large margin. It also depends on who is running. Clinton was very, very good at running for office.

Michael, apparently I was wrong about the absentee ballots, but I had been operating based upon the information given to me by several professors in the History / International Affairs / PoliSci department here at Pitt. Granted that information dated to late Dec, and I had not checked back, but my comment on the absentee ballots was made with the (apparantly erroneous) belief that I was correct. I have a hard time believeing that the total popular vote was accurately counted, however, as the election system is not set up for that type of a count. Of course it is a moot point anyway as both sides agreed to the rules in advance.

But they don't worry me much, because even if they get their way, it won't cost us anything tax-wise. But if the far left start getting their way... LOOK OUT! Their appetite for new programs is boundless. I'm on their side if all they're worried about is having the right to burn the US flag. But I'm outta there when they think they have the right to national health care, child care and housing subsidies.
