The problem with you conservatives on this issue is that children have no say in who their parents are. Think beyond yourselves for once in your damned evil pathetic lives.

What are you doing to help starving children in Africa? Do you own a TV? If so you're ethics are questionable according to your logic. You could be spending that flatscreen money on children anywhere in the world. They have no control over which country they were born in after all.

Kids eligible for these after school "free" lunches are already on food stamps. It isn't that their parents can't afford to feed them, we're already paying to make sure they can afford to feed their children (as we should.) They are just too damned trifling to do so AND we've taught them that feeding their own children is government's job - even if we've already paid for their meals once.Maybe if the parents of these kids didn't have iphones with dataplans and unlimited texting and driving an escalade with 22" wheels, they might be able to afford to feed their kids...

I'll say it again - people who receive food stamps and free housing and yet still can't manage to feed their own children do not deserve to keep pets, much less children.
We should NOT provide lunches or breakfast for kids. That program just keeps expanding, now they have to have it run in the summer, when school is not in session.
If you are so inept or lazy not to provide your kids food, you shouldn't be a parent.
How about that the bill allows the govermnet to reach into the areas of local responsibility.
What is wrong with having background checks on those that work with the children?

I hope and prey I am wrong and we don't have a "sudden stop" or hyperinflation. We don't even have an economy that can absorb 60-75 million in the workforce. It's not their fault righties. See my sig.
How can President Obama restart an economy that has been moved offshore?
He can't
Unless Americans stop voting in the Republican America haters it's all over.
So what do these kids learn? What the system teaches:
Hard work is for chumps, it never really makes your life any better.
Education is for chumps, it never really makes your life any better.
Having a job really doesn't make much difference in your standard of living.
There's no need to teach or even feed your children; that's government's job.
Having a good job really doesn't make much difference in your standard of living, over a bad job or no job.
Have another child, get another check. Guaranteed.
Through some magical process, a very few people become wealthy. These are all sports figures, or entertainers. It's all luck, really. And that's the only way to measurably improve one's life.
These kids are not stupid. They see the system we've set up for what it is - a system where hard work and education are largely unrelated to rewards.

...and you know this how? I think you're making way too many generalizations. You don't have to be wealthy to improve one's life. There are people out there where the system has gotten people on their feet.
It's not possible to help everyone and every cause. In the US we have taxes because then we are able to support everyone in the country as a collective group.
It would be possible to help the kids in Africa. You would just have to lose your disposable income. Your last sentence doesn't make much sense and uses circular reasoning.

I wonder how that $4.5 billion compares to the amount of the upper-class tax cuts they want to extend?
Sorry if this is a repost, couldn't find another thread.
Edit: Yay, my first 100+ post thread! Thanks, greedy Republicans!
You could lose all of your income and you still wouldn't be able to help the kids in Africa.
What I'm saying is that all the people complaining "this money is mine, I earned it" kind of mentality are forgetting how taxes to work. We pay taxes so that the US as a collective group of people can prosper.
You pay taxes and may not use every single road in your state, you may not be on welfare, you may not send your kids to the public schools, but that is not the point. The point is that everyone puts in their fair share whether you use the government services or not.
By fair share, you mean steal from the productive so union members and high school dropouts can cash out?
