Amused, if you looked into nutrition at any depth at all you'd know 1) there is more to nutrition than just calories, 2) excessive calories != adequate nutrition, especially when processed foods are involved, 3) you can be nutrient deficient to a degree short of exhibiting the acute signs of deficiency (for example, we have an epidemic of vitamin D deficiency and related chronic disease in this country despite extremely rare cases of rickets), 4) iron deficiency is the most recognized deficiency simply because anemia has historically been recognized as a deficiency disease. Other deficiencies can mimic other problems and simple vitamin tests are among the last thing a doctor will check, if at all.
I like your fire/gasoline symbolism. Except you're one of the ones helping the house burn down because you don't know the difference between gasoline and water.
Yes, we have increases in mild Vitamin D deficiency. Wanna know why?
Well now, the annointed safety police elitists have told us all to stay out of the sun and always wear sun block when we go out. Sun block also blocks production of vitamin D. The sun is THE major source of vitamin D for humans.
Wow.
Curiously, the lack of sun also coincides with the increase in sedentary indoor pastimes (cable/sat TV, video games and the internet). Also a major cause of the obesity epidemic.
We also have been told that Milk/Dairy is bad and "fattening" thus we should avoid dairy products. Curiously, dairy is a primary dietary source of vitamin D. We STOPPED vitamin D deficiencies in the northern, sun starved climates by adding it to dairy. But now dairy is bad, mmmkay?
Funny how this "problem" followed right on the heals of the "sun and dairy is bad for you" edict from the elitists who know best what's good for us.
And to throw more gas on the fire? The food police have scared people away from fish with WAY overhyped mercury scares. We've also been told eggs are bad for us. Why is this important? Because fish and eggs are the only other primary dietary source of vitamin D.
Wow.
So let me get this straight: You are using Vitamin D as an example when it is elitists from your side of the debate who CAUSED the problem??? When it is your side's "healthy living" advise that brought it on???
Just wow...
Curiously, it was these same folks who told women to gain too much weight during pregnancy... and now we know that women who gain excess weight DURING pregnancy have kids who grow up to be fat.
Meanwhile, the fact stands that TRUE dietary deficiencies are very rare in the US and that the problem behind CHILDHOOD OBESITY is NOT deficiencies, but an EXCESS of food and lack of exercise.
And finally, speaking of exercise, that brings us to the death of Gym classes and PE programs. While many like to blame budgets, one must ask, why is PE always the first to go? Could it be the nerds who had no stomach for it and are living with traumatic memories of gym class are now running the schools and boards? Naw... No way the academic snobs would do that, now would they? I mean, they're the elitists who know what's best for us, right???
Every time the government and self anointed elitists change something, they fuck everything else all up. You'd think you'd learn your lesson by now... but no. You still want to dick with it even more.
And your solution now for childhood obesity? Throwing more free food at fat kids. BRILLIANT!!!
