They can't claim to have the protection of the law if you're going to undermine and ignore the rule of law. Their constituents will pay them personal, one-time visits if they want to go down that path.

I can't say this isn't conceivable but I do not expect these things. Beyond the constitutional constraints there's precedent, there's tradition, which involves expectations. The future is always uncertain, but 250 years of tradition isn't swept aside by the wave of a hand. Vice presidents have been certifying POTUS elections all this time. Has JD Vance said he's not going to certify the 2028 election? If he has any aspirations of being in politics after his term as VP he must know that his political capital will be trashed if he doesn't do as Mike Pense did on Jan. 6. That's considered a formality after 250 years. It's not birthday cake.
