From what I know, Dell doesn't even provide the actual CD anymore either. They just give you a restore CD or the drive is partitioned and if you need to restore, it gets it from the partitioned drive. Same goes with most, if not all, big name OEMs such as Gateway, HP, Compaq, Emachines, Acer, Sony, etc.
Even if you ask for it and are willing to pay extra, they don't/won't give it to you. It's supposedly a way for them to cut costs and such. Problem is, if the drive takes a dive, you're SOL. So the best thing to do is build it yourself.
