Retail Athlon XP 2400+ fan noise?

I currently have an Athlon XP 1600+ with a Thermaltake Volcano 7 HSF, which is quite loud in my opinion. I was wondering how the noise level would be if I upgraded to a new retail 2400+ CPU from NewEgg or GoogleGear. I am not really interested in overclocking. Thanks for any info.

The reatail Fans that come with the AMD CPU's are not as loud as the Thermaltake Volcano 7

The stock HSF is perfectly fine for cooling, but yeah, its a noisy SOB. Like the other poster said...I wouldn't put your Volc 7 on it either. I'd get something like a AX7/SK7 and put a quiet 80mm fan on it, if noise is truly a concern.

Right, I was mostly wondering whether I should get the retail version and just use the stock HSF, or I should get the OEM version and get something like the SK7. I will probably just get the retail version and check out how the stock HSF sounds and then decide whether to upgrade to a better HSF. Thanks.

I have a 2400+ and a Zalmann flower heatsink (PC Toys QuietMaxx 6000), and with AS3 and the fan barely audible my temperatures stay around 40-45C, and never go to 50C, unless I use Prime95 (51-52C with this). I would expect you can overclock with this thing and get some farely good results, and it is built for quiet and as such is barely audible (as is the rest of my PC).
