Gyromite is pretty freakin fun even though ROB is a slowpoke. I guess it makes the timing and pre-queuing of commands part of the challenge.

I should make a modern ROB using voice coil actuators instead of stepper motors. Instant movements :awe:

Neat how simple ROB is. Only 6 moves (turn left/right, raise/lower arms, open/close hands) encoded as a series of rapid flashes on the screen. Probably doesn't even need a microcontroller, just a counter and a couple comparators, plus some timers for the motors and position extents feedback switches.

BTW guys, have you bought arcade parts? Any recommendations for stores?

I need replacement Sanwa and/or Seimitsu parts for my MadCatz Fightsticks. I'm in EU but the store doesn't necessarily have to be. Could also consider cosmetic improvement parts like clear acrylic faceplates I've seen on some photos.

My PS1 Working Designs collectors sets:

Working Designs....

Sigh.

I remember seeing screenshots of Arc the Lad before PS1 even came out. It was one of the games I wanted really...really BAD and got myself hyped over and one of the reasons I bought a PS1 on launch day (I still have my SCPH-1001 with the Aug 1995 tag on the bottom).

Sadly it never came out in the US. Until years later as the PS1 was on it's way out.

Go to the byoac forums and ask there. If you havea cab and have never been to those forums, I am shocked.

I don't have a cab (hence I mentioned Madcatz Fightsticks...). I import console ports of new-ish Japanese shoot-em-ups, play a bit of fighting games, and have occasionally played ROMs on MAME. A high-end stick and a video projector are a pretty good substitute for a cab, and much more flexible. After all, I play games which would require a vertical CRT cab, games which would require a horizontal CRT cab, and a widescreen LCD cab.

Anyway, I ended up getting parts from gremlinsolutions in the UK. They seemed like good guys. When the dust settles I should have an all-Seimitsu Madcatz TE stick blinged up with custom art, an all-Sanwa Madcatz SE stick, spare buttons. Also ended up ordering an USB adapter for my old trusty Hori RAP2.

I had a Sega CD as a kid so I got to play the two Lunar games. They are still the most memorable RPG's I've played because of the great animation they had.

I'll dig out my Sega CD copies and get a pic just for you. Those long cases are a royal PITA so they are all packed in like 10 feet of bubble wrap right now.

Lunar is just a tiny taste of what you are missing if it's the only RPG you've completed.

Sucks for you that you miss out on tons of awesome games.

I just do emulators or PSN/Wii Virtual Console.

I am guessing he got his turn like two decades ago. Honestly reading about people who have so much free time that they are deliberately playing these old games is depressing as hell to me.

But people have time to blow hours upon hours just mindlessly fragging away in the same FPS every night to get achievements and unlock bonuses....

Just picked up a mint complete box copy of Dragon Warrior for NES. By complete I mean both maps, poster, manual, box, styro, bag, info/spell/stat card, and explorer's handbook, even the little yellow "hint" paper.

Looking forward to this one. I remember what a LOOOOOONG grind that game was. Curious to see what my perspective is after power grinding away to perfect save files on more "modern" games.

It will be the next game I play after FF III. I'm stuck in FF III at the moment....

...

I can't decide if I want to continue this as a low level game, or proceed with the perfect max stat game. (the max stat game plays like a low level game until the world of ruin where you prevent level ups until you have the +2 stat on level up magicites).

While I have the cart (2 actually), I'm playing with my Super Everdrive so I can save the SRAM to an SD card. As such, I have a save file backed up at the point of no return so I can go back and do one or the other later.

Dragon Warrior! I remember getting that game with a subscription of Nintendo Power when I was a youngster... It's the game that got me in to RPGs Picked up Final Fantasy soon afterwards and I was hooked on the genre...

What kind of nonsense is this? Some of us like the older games better than the newer games, that doesn't mean we're spending 20 hours a week playing call of duty, then going and playing retro games. I choose to spend what little free time I have playing classic games, not the annual rehash of call of duty.
