Yeah, that's why I don't get why people are harping on the lack of realism. Did anyone watch Lost after the first season?

Admittedly I got a little frustrated with the direction Lost took in later seasons, but Revolution hasn't strayed nearly as far from reality (yet).

The main reason I'm watching the show is because the story interests me... same as Jericho. And Lost. I want to know what is unknown. I'm willing to give it time to improve (more time than I gave that time travel/dinosaur show).

Dude Jericho. What a shame. Best show ever that not really got a fair chance. I LOVED the first season of that show.

"I am about to go to war with New Bern, Kansas, the home of the nearest Costco." Yeah, Jericho was pretty good.

Because the show isn't about a power outage. Some man created/manipulated thing has prevented the global use of electricity in any form.

Yeah it's kinda hokey, but that's the premise.

And forgot to check her imdb page, but the mother looks familiar from something. And it really blows that the dad was killed, he was the char I liked the most before the show even started and the bastard lasted all of about 3 minutes.

Choo choo!!

A lot more modern guns were shown so looks like they show up where it's important and not for keeping the rabble under control.

The most logical explanation I can come up with is that the world has been seeded with self-replicating nanomachines (which are now everywhere) that interfere with electrical devices. The pendants must be sealed/protected against these machines and have the capability to emit a specific signal that temporarily shuts off the nanomachines within a small radius.

This still doesn't explain how the hell anyone is dialing out with a modem - that part makes absolutely no sense. But the nanomachine explanation is fairly reasonable for the rest of it.

I would further speculate that this was part of a world domination plot - if you have the ability to selectively control who can use technology, obviously you have a giant advantage. But I'd say something went wrong and the original creators of the tech were killed or lost the capability to control it for some reason or another. This is what led to 15 years of chaos instead of the faction who created the nanobots taking control.

WiredNuts probably does not even know the glide ratio of a 747, or rather, that an airliner even has one and what it means. Anyway, when the power went off and at the same time aircraft are in flat spin free falls Top Gun style, WHILE ON FIRE, you know it would take more than a simple electrical failure to induce that.

Like something catastrophic that changed the aerodynamics so suddenly and so much differently, that you would guess an explosion.

WiredNuts, you should read up on the United Airlines DC-10 crash at Sioux City. I think that was late 80's or early 90's.

Also see Gimli Glider.
The aircraft (Boeing 767) had lost 5,000 feet (1,500 m) in 10 nautical miles (19 km; 12 mi), giving a glide ratio of approximately 12:1.

I could see nanobots taking out sophisticated electronics, but how do they stop something as simple as a battery or as powerful as lightning?

It has actually gotten much better. The pilot was kinda meh, but if you suspend your disbelief and just watch it for what it is, cheesy sci-fi, it's entertaining.

Another good episode.. The pace has really picked up and I don't mind the cheesy action.. The main girl is still really awful but she seems to have less lines every episode.. LOL

Lightning still works I believe but they showed it to be some kind of planned weapon to get the funding they needed for it so I am guessing a bunch of satellites that covers the earth to cause it.

They could had been used to disable parts of the world if war broke out or to disable a nation if needed but something went wrong thus the entire planet is disabled now would be my first guess.

I believe they also showed some kind of digging device blueprints one of the episodes ago but don't know how that would work.

I really don't understand the premise of this outage. It seems to me that whatever is affecting the whole world is both affecting electrical machines and mechanical machines (even those without any need for electricity). Even if the cause of all this is some type of continuous EMP, there's no way it would affect both electrical and mechanical machines. I'm so confused.

Mechanical machines still work, but how many of them are left that require no electrical power at all? In this day and age almost everything needs power, nothing runs on steam or coal anymore.

Like the whole lighthouse thing, I'm pretty sure there was no electricity there. That was probably a gas thing.

15 years is nothing for a gun. Most of my guns are older than 15 years.

You know what's a popular rifle right now? The Mosin-Nagants, which Russia made from 1891 to 1965. Most were made for WWII. They made 37 million of them, and most survived the wars.

You don't need electricity to fix a gun. Spare parts help, but almost everything can be done with simple hand tools.

Since the majority of the population seems to have died off in the show, there would be far more guns left than people.

they're fine if they're well taken care of. if you neglect them, then no, they aren't going to last forever.

I'm finding this show very watchable, but I am nowhere near as hooked as with Once Upon a Time. Feels like the best writers or show runners from Lost went on to Once Upon a Time. Cast is also better there, althought I did notice that they poached the main bad guy (the one that isn't white) on Revolution from the other show.

Lots of things run on diesel. Yet we see no working diesel engines in the show.
