Rheostats/fan power consumption question.

Need some electrical help choosing the right Rheostat. I want to use a Delta fan using a rheostat. I am unsure which one to pick. I have no knowledge of power consumption.

FAN Specifications: 120x120x38mm, 220.01 CFM @ 4600 RPM, 65.0 dBA, 29.40 watts, 2.45 amps, Maximum Air Pressure 26.44 mm H²O, 12v DC, 3 or 3+4 pin Molex header connector(s).

The 2 Rheostats I found are listed below
(RWA) M22/03-0052 6 ohm Rheostat 2.04a 25w 1/4"Shaft
(RWA) RP152FD6R0K 6 ohm Rheostat 2.89amps, 50w

Your fan is about 4.9 ohms so you will never use more than about 4.5 ohms of rheostat as most fans won't run at much below 7V. So all you need is about a 5-10 ohm 8-10 Watt Rheostat. allelectronics.com had a 15 ohm by 15Watt rheostat that would probably be cheaper than the ones you're looking at. Why did you get such a ridiculous fan anyway??? No computer short of a Cray needs that much fan unless you want it to double as a hovercraft...

I have a $20-$30 four fan controller running three 120CM Panaflo fans and haven't had a lick of trouble with for over a year. The fans pretty much run 24/7. Just about any controller should do the trick.

Few controlers I know of can deal with a 25Watt fan. Most are limited to 1.5A output (18 Watts) - I'm not sure if that's per fan or total. That is a monstrous fan - if his confuser was on wheels, that fan could blow it across the floor...

Very cool. Thanks for the help. This is for a watercooling rig that I have always wanted to build so the more fan power the better!!!

Looks like allelectronics.com is out of the one you mentioned but at 9 bucks the (RWA) M22/03-0052 6 ohm Rheostat 2.04a 25w is the winner.
