Are they dogs, boxer breed? It's a longshot, but as a former owner of a boxer, the term "boxer" rang a bell.
you're thinking too hard

Oh, well. Worth a shot.

Since you said no "man" threw a punch, I took that literally. Was the answer female boxing? Seems like a sexist Q&A

I was thinking maybe a salvaged boat with a dead guy in it, but frank has to be a fish. does it really matter how he died? did the wind knock his bowl over?

Ok, just wondering about the submarine tie-in as I didn't see it.

The wind option was the second one I'd heard. The other one was that a cat jumped through the window, stuck its paw in the fishbowl trying to get Frank, tipped it over and either the falling bowl or getting splashed with water scared it away before it ate Frank. It would take a strong gust of wind to knock over a fishbowl, but that was one answer.

Which is more credible in your opinion?
I'd say the wind is more credible, as it doesn't require a random cat that isn't referred to or hinted at in the riddle. It would take a huge gust of wind, but that's at least hinted at by there being a conduit for it to enter.[/quote]

If the wind blew the window open which knocked the bowl over that would be most credible.

I don't really get this one, but see if you tough guys do:

Although I exist alone, I am often intertwined with others as
the threads of a spider web. When worn there's an expression
that signifies you shall not leave me. A man with a name meaning
knowledgeable one once said that I am part of a set of four and
that I have less than ten folds.

Ok, I see your point. I've seen the riddle phrased with "wind blowing through the window" and without that reference (when referring to the cat). With the wind reference included, the answer seems too obvious. With just an open window, no reference to exterior forces, anything can be assumed, and makes the riddle more difficult with more possible answers. Hence it could be the wind, a cat, or something else that entered and knocked over the bowl.

Thanks for the opinion.

No mention of the wind blowing the window open, it was just open. Then again, how many people just leave a window open in their house nowadays when they are not around?

Ok, bad riddle. Too confusing with too many possible answers. I'll do better with the next one.

Here are a couple from previous pages that have yet to be answered.. please no googling

There is a common English word that is nine letters long.
Each time you remove a letter from it, it still remains an English word - from nine letters right down to a single letter. What is the original word, and what are the words that it becomes after removing one letter at a time?

*******************

What's the difference between a penniless man and a feather bed?

*******************

An iron horse with a flaxen tail.
The faster the horse runs,
the shorter his tail becomes. What is it?

<edit> Answer below.. bad riddle </edit>

*******************

There is a seven-letter word in the English language that contains ten words without rearranging any of its letters." What is the word?

<edit> Spooner got it! </edit>

Well, this is one of the longer running threads in a while. I'm normally just a browser, but it's been a slow couple of days and I enjoy riddles/brain teasers.

This one is nearly impossible to guess. Some did Google it after no one guessed it and even after seeing the answer, they were thinking, "Huh?" I'd heard it before and it's definitely not an easy one and not likely to be guessed without help.

Something to do with being broke and/or down on your luck?

Agreed, might as well reveal it. That way, anyone who doesn't know it can go, "Huh?" Yes, I too agree that it's a poor analogy.
