Tales/Stories?
I thought of tales (tall), but how are they used for warmth?

warmth as in love

Yes! Tails/Tales (sorry, play on words). A cat uses its tail for warmth (at least mine does, when it is cold it wraps its tail around it), a scorpion uses it to kill (or maim), and tails can be long or short. Tales can be tall, can spread fame, and are usually not true.

I was going to say tail/tale, but i figured it would be one word. Thanks for keeping me entertained at work, I'm heading home now.

if anyone is inventing their own riddles think it out a few days.... mouse for that one answer is already flawed with optical mice being present.

Also many of these riddles are just reworded old ones and are every deficient in the wording.

Another thing giving part of a riddle is only solvable if some one knows the whole riddle already or makes a lucky guess.

The seahorse one was a stretch too....you don't call a seahorse a horse ever.

Sounds like a plan. I think I'll do the same and check back on the thread tomorrow.

How about this one: (another element orginal, but this is better than the seahorse one, not as much a stretch. You probably won't get it though if you've never heard of it)

It transcends time and space,
and has a horse for a face.

What is it?

Ha! That's funny, I was only joking, it was the only horse I could associate with space.

How does a nebula transcend time and space?

How does it not? It transcends time because it has been there for as long as we know and will be there for a long time from now. It travels through many light years of space to get here, and travels many more also even beyond here, so in that sense transcends space. But most importantly, it rhymes, hehe.

Transcend is different than travel.

Most hand-made riddles aren't thought out enough.

A good riddle is like an iron trap, it's open for everyone to see, but once you set foot in it, it shuts tight.

A riddle's question should be open...sort of vague, but if all the clues are followed, having one and only one answer. Even old riddles start to break down over time as new possiblities happen.

Transcend works just fine thanks, stop picking at it like anyone is going to think you are uber intelligent because you picked apart someone's attempt at a riddle. BTW where is your riddle?

from Dictionary.com :

transcend

\Tran*scend"\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. Transcended; p. pr. & vb. n. Transcending.] [L. transcendere, transcensum; trans beyond, over + scandere to climb. See Scan.] 1. To rise above; to surmount; as, lights in the heavens transcending the region of the clouds. --Howell.

We have a winner!!

An electric train is moving west at 20 mph. The wind is blowing northeast at 15 mph. The train is fully loaded with passengers to a weight of 5,600 pounds. Assuming no losses to friction and an acceleration of .2 mph. What direction does the smoke go?
