Ok, this one should be good for a few headaches

A customer at a 7-11 store selected four items to buy, and was told that the cost was $7.11. He was curious that the cost was the same as the store name, so he enquired as to how the figure was derived. The clerk said that he had simply multiplied the prices of the four individual items. The customer protested that the four prices should have been ADDED, not MULTIPLIED. The clerk said that that was OK with him, but, the result was still the same: exactly $7.11. What were the four prices?

$3.16
$1.50
$1.20
$1.25

There is a common English word that is nine letters long. Each time you remove a letter from it, it still remains an English word - from nine letters right down to a single letter. What is the original word, and what are the words that it becomes after removing one letter at a time?

Ok, I want to know if this is a math problem or a wierd logic problem before i go to the car and get my ti-89.

So far i have

x^4 = 4x
x^4 - 4x = 0
x(x^3-4) = 0
x^3 - 4 = 0
x^3 = 4
x = cubed root of 4.

It's a math problem

Here's an oldie, but goodie:

There is a room with a table inside. The window is open. There is some water on the floor. Frank is on the floor, dead.
How did Frank die?

I've heard two possible solutions for this one. There might be more, so take some guesses. If you already know it or find it via Google, don't answer yet and let people guess.

Is this like the 6 foot guy hanging himself in the 8 foot room riddle?

If Frank is a fish, how did he die?

I was thinking maybe a salvaged boat with a dead guy in it, but frank has to be a fish. does it really matter how he died? did the wind knock his bowl over?

Ok, just wondering about the submarine tie-in as I didn't see it.

The wind option was the second one I'd heard. The other one was that a cat jumped through the window, stuck its paw in the fishbowl trying to get Frank, tipped it over and either the falling bowl or getting splashed with water scared it away before it ate Frank. It would take a strong gust of wind to knock over a fishbowl, but that was one answer.

Which is more credible in your opinion?

Here ya go:

Two boxers are in a boxing match (regular boxing, not kick
boxing). The fight is scheduled for 12 rounds but ends after 6
rounds, after one boxer knocks out the other boxer. Yet no man
throws a punch. How is this possible?

I dig out tiny caves, and store gold and silver in them.
I also build bridges of silver and make crowns of gold.
They are the smallest you could imagine. Sooner or later
everybody needs my help, yet many people are afraid to
let me help them. Who am I?

Are they dogs, boxer breed? It's a longshot, but as a former owner of a boxer, the term "boxer" rang a bell.

Which is more credible in your opinion?[/quote]I'd say the wind is more credible, as it doesn't require a random cat that isn't referred to or hinted at in the riddle. It would take a huge gust of wind, but that's at least hinted at by there being a conduit for it to enter.
