so heres the story...
my friend was havin people over at her (lets call her friend a) apartment at her college which is about an hour away from me (50 miles). She said she was having several people over to drink and just chill at her apt, she asked me if i would pitch in for some beer, i said sure whatever. and I agreed to come down, but I also made plans with some girl to go out on a lil date (lets call her girl z). So I come down to the school pick up girl Z and end up staying with her till about 1am in the morning by the time i get to girl a's house she was gettin ready for bed and the "party" was over. I chilled with her for a bit then headed home. Several days later she asks me for 6$ for my share of the beer, I said no prob ill give it to you next time I see you. She says she wants it now because she has to repay her roomate, I said well Im busy and cant just drive 50 miles to give u 6$ and I dont write checks, but I can paypal the money. She dosent have a paypal account, and processed to bother me about gettin the money for the next several days, At first I had no problem giving it to her but just after the fact that she kept askin me for it i got pissed and said ok, so what exactly am i paying for? where is this beer that i didnt even drink? I asked her where my beer is, she said her roomate is takin it home with her, And i said im not paying unless i get my beer., she says I have to pay anyways because her roomate took the time to go pick it up for me, I replied and said I thought everyone was drinking and I didnt not specifically ask for anything. she said her roomate and bf were drinkin somethin different and the beer she had to go to a different bar for to get for me and girl A. I said well i didnt really ask for the beer and even if she had to go to a bar to get it, it coudnt have inconvienced her that much, and that if she gives me the beer id gladly give her the money, but it looks like thats not good enough and she just wants my money while she drinks my beer! Am i being a jerk here? or is girl A being an asshole?

What a crazy bitch. Don't pay. I stopped reading after she said you have to pay anyway. Wow.

Hey now! Its not her fault you were late. The agreement was that you'd chip in for beer.

All this over $6 worth of beer? You should find some friends that can afford to drink.

Chipping in for beer and asking a friend to buy you beer is different. You agreed to chip in without any agreement over how much you would drink, if any. They thought you were coming, so bought a certain amount of alcohol which they assumed you would pay.

Plus I thought any alcohol left over from the party belongs to the host irregardless of how much the guests consume?

actually why did she ask you to chip in... if she was going to have to go to a totally different bar to get you totally different beer? that makes no sense.

The hostess bought the beer (as agreed upon and fulfilled her part of the agreement). The OP showed up late therefore is at fault. Lesson: don't show up late.

So the roommate got the beer to start, then at the end, she took it back? Sounds like a "return" for a refund for you. Beside, if you got life problems over $6, you really need to get another source of income.

Send her six one dollar bills in an envelope in the mail. Say no next time she invites you over.

true, but it isnt like the beer was gone. The roommate took it home with her. Seems like a strange situations. And my friends sure as hell wouldn't be buggin me for 6 bucks like these girls

At first I kind of agreed with you, but then I would also expect that something I paid for to still be there. It wasn't agreed that he had to be there punctual (I don't know because he didn't use paragraphs so I only used the cliff notes) so unless that was part of the agreement then I think he's right.

For example, I know in order to get the Wii from his preorder, my brother was instructed that he HAD to be there for the midnight launch. But I know plenty of times when I bought something from a store, they still kept it on hold because I had it on layaway for a day or three because I just couldn't make it.

The OP bought a beer, not a beer and a reservation.
