This one kind of shocked me. It looks like youtube will be cable news in a few years. There are still channels that I really love left on there but the number shrinks every year.

Right Wing Watch has been permanently suspended from YouTube, the organization announced on Twitter on Monday.

According to screenshots posted by RWW, the Google-owned video platform informed the group that their official YouTube channel would be permanently removed from the site due to numerous violations of its community guidelines.

According to Right Wing Watch, their appeal of the suspension was also denied by YouTube, which again claimed that the watchdog group—which monitors disinformation, conspiracies, and violent rhetoric from far-right media outlets and personalities—was in violation of its guidelines and terms of service.
Meanwhile, many of the far-right extremists merely exposed by RWW remain on the platform.

“Our efforts to expose the bigoted view and dangerous conspiracy theories spread by right-wing activists has now resulted in @YouTube banning our channel and removing thousands of our videos,” Right Wing Watch wrote on Monday. “We attempted to appeal this decision, and YouTube rejected it.”
YouTube did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

YT seems to not want certain subjects to be spoken of, regardless of the context. It is a stupid policy and just 1 more reason why we need an alternative.

I'd recommend using YouTube for what it is good for, entertainment. I watch a lot of YouTube videos but only for things like grilling tips, home improvement instructions and random funny stuff. I might watch some informational opinion stuff like Beau but don't use their opinions as a source of information and only for entertainment.

For news and politics, there are plenty of good unbiased sources outside of social media.

From the quoted article:

"After left-wing media watchdog Right Wing Watch had been informed that its channel had been permanently suspended from YouTube on Monday morning, the online video platform reversed course hours later and reinstated the channel."

Looks like a nothing burger.

Good. Seemed kind of hinky for them to ban a channel for posting misinformation solely for the purpose of debunking it.

Absolutely correct. People should be looking elsewhere for their news, not to youtube and twitter.

Specking of social media, and Facebook, I always felt that posting political crap, especially mean divisive personal opinions on Facebook was tacky. People ignored it and stuck to posting photos of their kids and cute little puppy pictures. However now, my Trumpie family have went full blown posting their political Trump crap and Qanon crap on FB and YT. No more puppy pictures, now it's all conspiracy rants and doom and gloom about Joe Biden. And they often find themselves in FB jail, as they call it, for their BS postings. Regardless, it's still tacky that they would abuse YT and FB the way they have. They too seek "alternatives", but those "alternatives" are a joke with only a fraction of the participants of YT and FB. No one cares about their looney toons "alternatives", not even them.

Is there really a difference when an outlet broadcasts something at 6:00pm and someone has to sit a full 30 minutes and go through commercials versus an outlet posting to youtube?

Sounds like there's some 2006 startup stigma you hold against youtube...that it's some causal site used by millennial teens from that time.

I get most of my news in print. Haven't watched TV news for 10+ years with the exception of election nights, and the odd TV clip on CNN.com.

I generally don’t even watch election nights. When 1/6 happened I realized it was the first time I had watched a significant amount of TV news since 9/11.

Yes, but no help in repairing dysfunctional human brains. Probably increases the damage. All social media seems to do that.
I finally sold off my FB stock. If I were wealthy I'd donate it to fight voter suppression, but a new kitchen is in order for us regular people.

I hope you realize that most legit news organizations have a presence on YouTube and do in fact post videos of news highlights.

Yes, but those are almost never the videos which get linked here. The problem with youtube is too much bullshit and most people are unable to distinguish. The bulk of humanity should be banned from social media due their inability to handle it.

What does that even mean? There's tons of content on YouTube that is not in any way related to news.

By the time they produce and edit a video the news is a day old.

not sure why being a day late on the news would be a big deal, but you are mistaken. MSNBC posts short videos within an hour or two of broadcast.

Right, common folk ought only listen to their betters, who know what's best for them. This democracy thing, giving the vote to peons is obviously a failure unless their opinions can be controlled.

HumblePie’s never ending stream of YouTube videos posted here is just one example.

Yeah but broadcast is already a day late. Even breaking news is often hours after the internet first breaks a story.

licensing? ethics? actual journalism?

the sole qualifications being having a camera and a computer, does not make one qualified to replace journalists.

So, your argument is fucking retarded.

Damn, after perusing this thread I suddenly got the urge to get on YT and watch old Jhonny Carson and Carol Burnette clips. I might even take a look at the latest BTS boy band choreography (they can't sing worth a shit) and watch Poppin John with the pep in his step, the bop in his hop and the gliiiiiiide in his stride.

See ya's. T2 out.
