At the company I work for RIM already lost. Executives moved from RIM -> Apple. iPhones and iPads all over.

I think I've seen 1 7" android tablet here. and 1 touchpad.

That's the way it happened w/ my employer too.

The nice thing with BES though is the central management and easy integration with Exchange, with Active Sync you have to set it up on a per user basis in their Outlook, which can be a pita if you have lot of users. Unless that changed and they have a server product now?

WTF are you talking about? where i work you just give simple instructions to the users and they do it themselves on their device. turn on iphone, configure your email account and go

RIM/blackberry was a huge PITA especially for users who had their own device because you had to have the "enterprise" data plan to access BES. our helpdesk would tell a lot of users to go back to the carrier and pay more money because they went with the cheaper data plan

And when\if those people left the company. The phone often times had to be hard reset for those users. The only thing I liked about BES was the ability to lock\destroy the phone. Otherwise it was another point of failure and expensive for what it did. I also didnt like the version we had required a pair of files match on the BES and exchange server. If the versions were out of sync BES ceased fuctioning. Made updating exchange a real pita.

We dropped it 2 years ago as at that time 2/3rds the organization was using Activesync anyways, and we couldnt justify the cost of a new BES license for the amount of users.

if you had super secret trade secrets, then yes. but for a lot of organizations for most employees if your phone is lost it's not that big a deal if the company email is lost as well

it's one thing when BES was the only game in town for mobile exchange. but with activesync it's good enough for most people and "free"

Summary: RIM is in dire straits. This week it announced it would suffer an operating loss and suspended its shares on the Nasdaq. Here’s what you need to know before market open.

Towards the end of market trading on Tuesday, Research in Motion temporarily froze its shares to deliver the inevitable news: the BlackBerry maker was in deep financial trouble and was no longer generating profit.

A profit loss means RIM is no longer a functioning business. It’s a dead weight around Canada’s neck.

we will never use activesync. we have BES and GOOD.

Activesync depends on a username/password for authentication and the username/password is stored on the device. In the case of android phones there is potential for malware to access this information.

Love zdnet. In dire straights to them must mean, cash is to grow this quarter and that also means positive free cash flow expected (again).

Profit loss means nothing. Free Cash flow is all that matters.

FCF to be negative this fiscal year...

Who cares about this quarter.

Major cash burn on the horizon.

What was he banned for?

He doesn't know. He logged in one day and out of the blue got this message:

You have been banned for the following reason:
After in-depth admin discussion we have unanimously decided that both you and the forums would be better served if you were no longer a member. You have been permabanned. If you wish to appeal this decision, you may state your case at <edited>@gmail

Date the ban will be lifted: Never

A number of longtime posters got the same message at about the same time. It was later refered to as a purge by one of the mods.

I am not sure about PM, but the rest of those guys that got banned knew exactly why. The new story in the forums that can't be named is no one has a clue why and it was just mod hate.

They broke into the mod forums and hashed it out on another forum. They then didn't accept the punishments and went batshit crazy over it here resulting in permbans.

Same idiots think I am somehow coddled by the mods and their mole.

Pliablemoose was banned in March of this year.
Those people you're referring to were banned last fall. Pliablemoose was not one of the people that broke into the mod forum.

It's only a matter of time before some other major player buys RIM purely for the patents they hold.

Maybe he pissed off one of the mods by PM?

That is weird. Almost always the mods give some reason.

More than likely it was obvious to the parties involved.

Personally if it were my forums, I would not tolerate members taking info from private sub-forums I hosted and discussing it on another forum which had a sole purpose of bitching about mine and/or plotting 'flash mob' type bullshit on it.

Facebook is on its third internal attempt to create a phone ..... just saying. FB goes public. Week later RIMM is seeking "strategic alternatives"

FWIW: I think the most likely outcome is that RIMM opens the BB10 OS to other manufacturers. Hopefully they don't end up with about 100 models like Droid. Verizon offers 50 Droid based smart phones right now. Kinda stupid. Worldwide their are manufacturers we have never heard of making them. Apple has a few phones to choose from. It would be nice if RIMM offered 10 or so smart phones through a strategic partnership.
