RIMM is supposed to have 75,000 apps at launch.

Internally they have an unreleased list of 100 apps that are "must haves". The only app known to be missing is Netflix unless things changed and things are being kept under the wraps.

If you want a ray of hope, Android apps can be ported to BB10 in about 10 minutes. iOS apps can also be ported. iOS requires more work but programmers have said that RIMM has created one of the best porting apps ever.

My grin is from ear to f----ing ear these days.

Anecdotal evidence about teenagers and college students in the USA having interest in BB10 phones make me want to cry. These kids actually realize that iOS and ANdroid are out of date. Amazing!

Not sure how this hype was built but there is nothing but postivie articles coming out these days.

Things have turned for the better. And I am up about 1000x on my RIMM investment. My RIMM investments alone have taken my portfolio up about 40%. If RIMM stocks does whatI think it can do, I am a f----ing millionaire. To put things in perceptive. No mortgage, kids college paid for and I can spend all disposable income however the F I want to.

Good for you.

Most of us don't have a personal stake in the company, though (but if I had money, I would have put it in RIMM months ago). It is nice to see a 4th player, hopefully keeping prices down and mobile OS/ecosystems competitive. If someone gave me a new phone in June, I wouldn't be disappointed if it were any upper tier BB10, Android, iOS, or WP8 phone.

I still have doubts as to whether anyone will take away significant share of iPhone sales this current generation.

Thing is, no one expected Samsung to become so dominant 3 years ago. Technology is quickly evolving and those that don't change get left behind.

I'm pretty much decided on getting a BB10 at launch. I'm up for a new phone and I hate my Android phone. BB10 just looks amazing and easy to use. That whole flow interface is incredible.

FWIW: RIMM is content with being #3 for now. As a business, that is more than sufficient to make alot of money in a world market.

From what I have seen the BB10 phone looks pretty slick and I am starting to HATE my antique Nexus S phone. It's so despicably slow and at times darn right unusable.

It will all depend on the price.

Ah, fuck it. I'm throwing a small amount of money into this on Monday morning just to have a stake in it.

RIM waited far too long to adapt and they are lucky to still be around. Fortunately, there's a promising future now.

They had more time than most realized. The entire world is not on smartphones.

They learned from the Playbook fissco though and didn't rush a BB10 to market prematurely.

People didn't seem to realize how much money they had in the bank, or the fact that, US/EU marketshare aside, they weren't hemorrhaging cash like some other companies. They had plenty of time to set things right. Time will tell if BB10 does that, but yea, the failure of BB7 to compete against the US market was not the death knell many (including the OP of this thread) wanted it to be.

Okay, got my 60 shares. Guess I'm prepared to lose $500...

By the way, Playbook seems to have been unofficially discontinued. Unless they have a new model coming out. Local stores have been firesale-ing core accessories since December.

Well, it is almost a two year old product at this point. Makes sense. Considering it didn't exactly light up the sales charts after the very beginning, I'm surprised they kept it up this long.

In the USA or Canada? It is actually thriving in Canada. A few quarters ago it outsold the iPad if memory serves.

In the USA though, it is pretty dead. Rumor has it that one of those 6 BB10 devices that are talking about for 2013 will be a Playbook. People keep assuming that they will be 3 touchscreen phones and 3 qwerty phones.

FWIW: Recent rumors say that the Playbook will be upgraded to BB10 OS this summer. Of course, it already uses QNX under the hood so it's not a stretch of the imagination.

I think RIMM might go with something larger than 7" for a playbook. Oh, I have looked for one in the USA. They don't exist anywhere besides EBay and Amazon.

More random tidbits.

Rumors (somewhat based on leaks) indicate that Canada will have see the release of BB10 first. Rumor is that it will be shortly after the Jan 30 announcement (about 7 days). Not shocking seeing how wireless carriers in Canada are doing preorders already and news of stores getting hardware in stock already. None of this from USA based stores though.

USA (and rest of world?) is rumored to have it available shortly after.

Take it with a grain of salt but Canadian retailers are reporting "impressive" pre order numbers. Sounds like it is doing better than they expected which is nice.

Oh, other rumor is that it will be $149 with contract in the USA. "leaked" info says they want it to cost less than the S3. $149 is a nice price point. Undercuts the $199 price tag on many phones but doesn't make it look cheap at $99 with contract .... (like Windows 8 phones)

FWIW: I picked up a friends Windows 8 phone. What a mess. I think you could get used to it though. If you got used to it, it probably would be nicer than an Android or iOS phone. Videos of BB10 make Windows 8 look like crap though.

PS: With US markets closed this Monday, RIMM was up about 20% in Canada today (at one point) after settling back to close up 10%. Should make for an interesting Tuesday if shorts in the USA get squeezed. I don't think these shorts realize that their time has passed. They carry all the risk at this point.

I'm looking at Canada, but it's never been that popular in US, so I use Canada as an optimistic measuring stick.

Here, our two main electronics retailers:

Not quite that much... Up 10.82%. I bought in at $17, so I'm up 2% already... yay. $20.

New rumor is that Canada might get a simulataneous launch/release or have the release be the day after the launch.

False rumor: QWERTY version not here till summer. Reality is that end of March would be late according to RIMMs own hints. Even late February would be shocking.

We'll find out in 8 days.

Sawyer,

What are you talking about? Stock price or company's future? Buying now is to late or the comapny (generating $2B in free cash each year) is doomed?

Trade confirm or screenshot of current position.

I hate posting info like this .... but I will with some caveats.
1) I removed quantity info.
2) Personal info removed. My address is my business.
3) removed principle amount
4) removed net amount
5) removed commission (easy to deduce quantity from this knowing Ameritrades fee structure

What is there:
1) dates I bought
2) What I bought
3) What I paid per option.

Not posted here ...
I also have:
1) calls at the 8 strike out to Jan 2015
2) calls at the 11 strike out to June 2013
3) stock

The calls below represent the lions share though so it is all I got screens of. The 8s and 11s were bought just so if RIMM hits $30 or so (no idea exactly what break even would be(EDIT: Closer to $20 for break even)), I can sell them off and be at break even on my investment. I can let the lions share ride without loosing my initial investment.

I'll save everyone some work. The 22 calls are now at a bid/ask of $3.30/$3.40. The 30 calls are at 1.77/1.83.

Curious as to why I bought?

Funny thing about the article is that I should make some more money off of RIMM from that article. Why?

Not sure why you hid the position size since it really does not matter. But I know what your position size is anyways.

Do you think RIMM will be trading in the 100-150 range by expiration day?

What is your price target on expiration day?

From what I can see your trade is a low risk trade, limited losses and right now your sitting on a nice return.
