My comments are based on research that I did a few months ago. I basically read about people trying to get miracast working. I don't remember the details but I do remember that the people trying to find a good HDMI dongle had a lot of trouble finding a good one. That and they are about $100 each.

Miracast is an open standard. The Wi-Fi alliance certifies devices. There may be costs associated with certification. I don't know the details.
Chromecast has an SDK. Wonderful. So does Apple, Android, BB10, Microsoft ... I can go on. If your app already works on any of these devices, there is no reason to have to write another app on Chromecast ... Just use the device that would be the "remote" anyways and stream the video/sound to the screen.
