If you have a Fry's near ya, you can get a crimper for under 15 bucks. I've got one of them and it's serving me well Just remember to "flatten" the cable when you cut off the outer casing or you might also cut the wires inside.
<edit> I'm not sure what you mean by "crimps in the front" but with the one from Onvia you insert the cable/connector from the side of the crimper (very easy to use tho)</edit>
High-quality crimpers usually have it on the front because it crimps all the contacts evenly. Some cheapo crimpers that have a side hole don't do a very good job. I have seen some side-crimpers that are designed to do it properly. The more you spend, the better it is.
If you live near a Home Depot you can get a Ideal Rachet Telemaster or Crimpmaster or a regular Telemaster, plus the punchdown tools and testers, or the whole termination kit.
