I built my computer nine months ago with OCZ Platinum 2GB(2x1GB) DDR2-800 4-5-4-15 2.1V memory.
Since upgrading to Vista, SuperFetch seems to have actually slowed down some programs, owing to Vista having greater base memory usage, and SuperFetch having the wrong data loaded (i.e. wrong map in BF2). So, I decided to use the following time-tested solution: throw more memory at it, especially now that said memory is cheaper.
I purchased a second pair of the exact same RAM, and I installed it after it arrived today. My previous 400x8 overclock of my E6600 on my Asus P5W has become simply unattainable. 333x9 at the same voltages now fails Orthos after mere seconds. I'm willing to live with that, though, because 4GB of RAM is somewhat of a stress on the system, I would think.
But to top it all off, I don't have 4096MB of RAM. I have 3200MB. The BIOS and CPU-Z report 4096MB of RAM as installed, but the BIOS reports that 896 is "Appropriated" and that 3200MB is usable. Windows Vista only sees 3199MB.
I have begun the RMA process with Newegg, but is there anything I might be missing?
EDIT: I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit.
*DONE*: Thanks so much to those early hours responders, I had to enable Memory Remap in the BIOS to access all 4096MB.
