I'm really interested in learning to play, and pro mode appeals to me as a method of learning.

Here's an Scorehero interview with Dan Teasdale that talks about a few aspects of Rock Band 3. I'm particularly happy to hear that an option to de-sync the track speeds is included, so players on lower difficulties don't have to slow down an expert track.

Keep in mind that I'm totally guessing here. I hope that gorcorps is right and that it's under $300.

Honestly I think it will only be around 200$. It's probably going to be similar to the cheapest strat they make with the addition of the sensors on the fretboard. I'm most likely going to get a pro controller, if anything it'll help me get a little extra practice that may transfer to real skills.

The track syncing news is great too, it always throws me off for a little when I play with someone going easy.

I just hope that it really will be a squier with some extra tech added... and not a cheapened watered down version of the squier. I will seriously think about buying one if it is in every way the same as the current strats with just added tech. But if it's a cheapened version of the squier , I won't buy it.

Well if you look at the videos/pics of the controller, you can see it's not the normal 3 single coil pickup configuration. Looks like it could be a specially made Squier with extra controller stuff in it and not just the guitar with added stuff. But it still has the 1/4" output and plays like a guitar so I can't imagine it'd be much different. The Squier strat is so damned cheap and flimsy anyway I don't understand how you can think a 'watered down' version would be much worse. They're not going to be very good regardless.

Yeah this is probably how it's going to be. I don't mind having a pos controller to use with RB3 really since I already have a guitar and I'd rather pay less for this.

Squiers are already super crappy cheapened versions. Couldn't get much worse.

I got very bored with this genre and thought I was out for RB3 but I think I'm back in. I've played guitar for 22 years so I think this will be much more fun. I hope.

I play an acoustic guitar... so I don't know all that much about the electric guitars. Other than higher quality pickups, what makes one electric guitar so much better than another? What makes the squier "super crappy cheapeend version"? They aren't very expensive, so I believe you when you say that's the case... but what about them makes you say that?

wood, electronics and overall craftsmanship. Wood still makes a huge difference in electric guitars

There's a new rumor that says the RB3 release date is 9/24, conflicting with the previous Halloween rumor. I hope it's correct so I can get RB3 over a month earlier.

So there was a new video put out (not by Harmonix) that appears to show 5 new tracks from Rock Band 3. Unfortunately it seems that the video was pulled and I can't find a working link to it anymore, but if I scrounge one up I'll edit this post to provide it. Anyway, the rumored 5 songs are:

20th Century Boy - T-Rex
Spinning Wheel - Blood, Sweat & Tears
Need You Tonight - INXS
25 or 6 to 4 - Chicago
Midlife Crisis - Faith No More

EDIT: RockBandAide has a screenshot showing the tracks from the video.

Huge difference between a 100 Squier Strat and a 700+ Strat. Main dif is quality of wood and build, neck quality, frets, PUs even the switch. mind you, I have an excellent Squier myself, not all squiers are crap, mine is an HSS format with 22 frets, most squiers are SSS and 21 frets. Generally a standard squier starts at 99 bucks. They are great for beginners and pratcice. I mostly play Gibson Les Pauls (have 3, bought over 30 years ago) and I use my Squier HSS for the tremolo and laying down some sick tracks and effects on my computers. I love my Squier and have been playing it almost as much as my much more expensive LPs. But for a controller to be built on the Squier HW I cant see it being made with less quality as a real squier due mainly to the fact that they, real squiers, are not built to the standard specs of a strat. And the fact that it is a controller, which will probably getting a lot of abuse, they will probably make it from a gutted squier body. If they make it any cheaper/crappier then the conrollers wont last very long.

A couple of tidbits from Gamestop - first, they have updated their advertised release date from Halloween to 10/26. There have been other conflicting rumors about the release date, so we're still not sure if 10/26 is the real one.

Also, they are advertising 3 free DLC songs as a preorder bonus:

Talking Heads - Burning Down The House
Deftones - My Own Summer
New Order - Blue Monday

One would hope that this is fully RB3-enabled DLC with pro mode, but there are no details on that.

EDIT: The UK retailer that was originally claiming a 9/24 release date has updated theirs to 10/29, so maybe we are converging back to late October for a real release.

anyone seen if Wii will support importing RB2 DLC?

A lot of people have been asking that, so far nobody knows. Historically the Wii has been a pretty crappy platform for Rock Band, but perhaps RB3 will bring some parity. Part of the problem is that the Wii does not allow patches at all, and the export functionality for RB1 was introduced by means of a patch on 360/PS3. If RB2 ends up in a similar situation, the Wii could still be screwed. At a minimum, RB3 will have SDHC support, which will be hugely useful for Wii users trying to juggle a bunch of DLC (and content for other games).

Here's some really interesting setlist news. Apparently I missed a RockBandAide rumor that was posted in late July containing additional songs from the RB3 setlist. Now, it was only a rumor, but since it was posted, quite a number of songs from the list have been officially confirmed, so it might be true. However, the rumor has been qualified to say that some of the songs will be DLC, so these may not all be RB3 disc tracks. The latest confirmation from this list is a GameInformer Podcast where Space Oddity (a song by David Bowie) is mentioned as being in Rock Band 3.

Here is the rumored list, with already confirmed songs bolded:

Amy Winehouse – Rehab
Anthrax – Caught In A Mosh
Avenged Sevenfold – Beast and The Harlot
Bob Marley and The Wailers – Get Up, Stand Up
David Bowie – Space Oddity (unofficial)
Devo – Whip It
Faith No More – Midlife Crisis
Filter – Hey Man, Nice Shot
HIM – Killing Loneliness
Marilyn Manson – The Beautiful People
Queens Of The Stone Age – No One Knows
Rammstein – Du Hast
Slipknot – Before I Forget
Steve Miller Band – Fly Like An Eagle
Tears For Fears – Everybody Wants To Rule The World
Tegan and Sara – The Con
The B52's – Rock Lobster
The Beach Boys – Good Vibrations
The Police – Don't Stand So Close To Me
The Ramones – I Wanna Be Sedated
The Smiths – Stop Me If You’ve Heard This One Before
Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers – I Need To Know
Warren Zevon – Werewolves Of London

If this whole list is true, I'm pretty happy about several of these tracks, especially Werewolves of London.

I've held off on posting this for a few days because there's a whole lot of controversy about whether it's fake or not, but in the interest of news, Xbox360Achievements posted a list that supposedly shows all the RB3 achievements. The list contains an extra 250 points for DLC, and much of the controversy revolves around the seemingly totally random DLC achievements, like one related to "The Perfect Drug", which is old DLC by Nine Inch Nails. Supposedly X360A sources their lists directly from Microsoft, but the debate is still raging about whether these achievements are legitimate or perhaps still "beta" and subject to change.

Ten new songs announced for RB3

Bob Marley & The Wailers - Get Up, Stand Up
INXS - Need You Tonight
Poni Hoax - Antibodies
Rammstein - Du Hast
Roxette - The Look
Tokio Hotel - Humanoid
HIM - Killing Loneliness
Maná - Oye Mi Amor
Slipknot - Before I Forget
War - Low Rider

Several of these were present on the leaked list, so that is still looking pretty legitimate.
