I got this last night and so far I'm having a lot of fun with the keyboard. It's not too bad on expert but it I haven't tried pro mode at all. Bohemian rhapsody is a lot of fun on keyboard, gets pretty damn hard at parts tho.

Can anyone explain to me what the colors behind the keys mean? They don't seem to match up at all with what colors the keys actually represent in game.

I think that's supposed to help you in pro mode when the lane shifts around, but I haven't played yet, my bundle is showing up today. I'll definitely be busting it out tonight!

If you have a choice between Wii and Xbox go Xbox if you can, though the Wii version isn't as crippled as previous versions of Rock Band since RB3 is supposed to support exports. I don't have much info on that yet though. The other thing you don't get with the Wii is full access to the RBN store.

Initial reports say that the RB3 Wii is able to export Rock Band 2 and Green Day, but not Rock Band 1 and Lego. It's uncertain if this situation is temporary or permanent.

Again, given a choice between Rock Band on Wii or Xbox, I highly recommend Xbox. Traditionally the console preference for Rock Band has looked like this:

Xbox > PS3 >> Wii

EDIT: I just realized that this export info is essentially already in the export guide link that Termie posted, though the format of that table is horrible.

Did you end up buying an E-drum kit? I just hate spending a lot of money on fake drums when I would rather invest it in my acoustic kit.

yup, rolands. by far I prefer acoustic to electronic kits, but living in an apt, that's not feasible.
but this is the best solution to pair drums with a console.

Pro keys is a blast, but very challenging. I've not attempted expert pro keys yet, sticking to medium/hard for now. I have found single notes to be manageable, but chords -- I see a three-note chord coming down and my brain locks up, I can't process it fast enough. So basically memorization will be necessary.

The export process currently isn't working for me. Anyone have issues or found it was buggy?

I just did it on my 360 with no problem at all. Entered the code from the back of my RB2 manual into RB3 and it is downloading the export now. I also downloaded my Gamestop preorder pack and the free Doors pack with no issue.

I think there might be some load on the servers, because I got errors trying to do my RB2 export last night, and again tonight. I entered the code on the back of my manual five or six times before it finally accepted it. I tried both uppercase and lowercase variations (no dashes, although if you try to enter dashes you'll run out of room) and it finally went through in lowercase, so I suspect case doesn't matter.

Tried about 5 times myself. Not that big of a deal right now since I have a lot of new songs to try. Guess I will try each night until it works.

Well, I've finally gotten some playtime and this game is awesome. However, the one gotcha is that it is obviously in need of some bug fixes. I've only had the game for one night and I've managed to lock up the whole system hard in the character creator. Also, even worse, I got the demo of Even Rats from RBN. I decided to buy it after playing and it sent me to download the WRONG SONG. I ended up accidentally buying Inheritance by Single White Infidel, something I had no interest in. At least it was only 80 MSP. If you pay close attention you can catch this problem in the download dialog, but if you aren't expecting this it is very likely to screw you! I'm definitely reporting this one of the RB forum.

Also had a couple bugs like a the game pausing for 1/2 second while playing a song. The mic also stop responding half way through a song, but luckily I was able to save my gf a couple times. It finally started working after she unplugged and plugged in a couple times.

Man, is there anyway to easily see what DLC you've already bought and is already on your HD? We bought a brand new 20gig to use just for Rock Band, but it's just ridiculous how you can't easily see what you've bought versus what's on your HD. All I see on the DLC list when I go into a Purchased song is the option to Download Again... grrrr...

For those who care, in RB3 when you are looking at songs it will say either "Purchased" or "In Library." So if it says Purchased it means that you've previously bought it but it isn't on your hard drive. Once it says In Library the game sees it on your HD. Really helpful when you don't know whether or not you have it downloaded.

As long as you get Rock Band 3 by November 1st, you can download a free Doors 3-pack (Light My Fire, Riders on the Storm and Touch Me) from the in-game music store. There are also 9 more Doors songs available for purchase as regular DLC. Basically it's an incentive to get the game at launch rather than waiting.

I've come across my first big bug in the game -- there's a short cutscene that sometimes plays, of your roadies moving gear down a ramp. My PS3 locks up immediately at this point.

The frustrating thing is that even if I just quickplay a song(s), this cutscene sometime shows up.

Lots of people on the RB forums have reported exactly that same issue. I'm sure they will have to put out a patch for that before too long.

Oh man what a disaster, there are tons of problems being reported now for RB3 on all consoles -- freezing, DLC not being recognized, corrupted save data, the list goes on. Makes me not want to play at all, and I am a hardcore rhythm game lover.

I had a feeling something like this could happen. I applaud Harmonix for their ambition and efforts, but there are so many variables in trying to get a new piece of software to work with previous content.

But it is an amazing effort. I think they had trouble making their deadline (heck, the website wasn't even up on the day of release), but the sheer magnitude of what they've done here is tremendous. I played for about two hours last night on xbox and experienced no crashes, although I wasn't using much downloaded content or older tracks, since I was trying out the keyboard. The Pro mode is a huge upgrade, given that they had to program way more than five notes per instrument, and make varying levels of difficulty while still using real instrumentation.

I'll forgive them some bugs - this is a true work of art. I'm sure they'll clean up their mess soon.

Yeah, it's not as bad as it sounds. There are definitely some problems, but I'm still enjoying the game a lot. Hopefully there will be a patch by the end of the year that fixes the biggest problems (pure speculation on my part, but it makes sense).

Need some help with drums. I purchased the RB3 set with the cymbals and well the suck. One of the cymbals double registers no matter how adjusted. The red pad sometimes doesn't register hits and there is a small lag with the kick pedal. Is the Drum Rocker kit still the best alternative? I just want to be able to enjoy the game without be frustrated by crappy hardware.

You should contact Mad Catz, they may send you some replacement parts. I don't own Ions so I can't say much about them.

The more I play, the more problems I discover, and I'm far from alone there as evidenced by the RB forums.

Serious audio problems - static, crackling/popping during songs. And then the occasional loud screech.

Playability - freezing, just everywhere. Menus, load screens, cutscenes, during online play. The other night, not even 20 seconds into a song, my screen suddenly goes black and I'm booted back out to the PS3 XMB.

I can tolerate some minor bugs here and there, but this is seriously unacceptable. How could they not discover this during playtesting?
