I keep coming to this forum and all I see are threads on "Vista Problem". I'm so glad I came back to XP for a little while longer. Aren't you?

I am thankful though for the pioneers in this forum. Without your work, these bugs wouldn't get fixed. My hat goes off to you guys.

FWIW, I'll look back into Vista when it's more mature. I did the same with XP. I have no problem with *progress*, but there's nothing that makes me want to switch for now. Tried RC1, RC2, and RTM, didn't like it.

I'm putting XP on my new machine. I will likely go get Vista when they have drivers for all of my hardware (mainly my RAID card & video card). I'll also be putting Linux on another drive, and playing with it in the mean time....

I'll be waiting until SP1 is released for Vista....I did the same for XP, there is no point in adopting an immature OS yet, especially one that can't even support my D-link modem or onboard IDE and SATA Raid controllers yet.

My plan is to purchase Vista in June, or July. There's no need for me to upgrade to it now. Although, I may end up buying it through my college, if the price is right.

Here I am with my PowerPC laptop, my X86-64 desktop, and my x86 server all running happily side by side. Strange thing is that all my applications and all my hardware is supported equally well on all three machines.

Just goes to show, like Love, that software is better when when Free.

Pretty smooth compared to 95>98 or 2000>XP.

I am willing to bet that 50% of the people having issues with Vista are most likely installing it on substandard hardware.

Example:

I was reading a thread this morning on the Hardforum where some noobie came in ranting about how "Vista blows" and it took his machine 3 hours to install...

Well later in the thread, the same noobie posts back "Well.. I figured it out.. my dvdrom drive must have been flaked out.. I replaced my drive and all is well"..

After discovering how bad my SLI 8800 GTX setup runs on Vista I will be reformatting & installing XP again tomorrow. Ill put my Vista disk on the shelf for now.

Vista has been nothing but a joy for me and I highly suggest if you hardware that is up to speed to give it a try. Think about it, you're going to spend the money sooner or later right? Spend it now and enjoy what the new OS has to offer. And if you do have questionable hardware, then buy the full retail version so you can move it to a new computer when the time comes without any of the EULA headaches.

I'm not sure others have had similar experiences to mine but I loaded Vista on my Centrino 2.0 laptop and the only drivers that were not found were for my SD ram slot, that was a quick install and then I elected to upgrade my radeon drivers to the latest, done! The SD ram slot is a nice feture to have for the readyboost, nothing sticking out of a USB port to get whacked when moving the laptop.

Vista's been rock solid and the speed and fluency is incredible and MUCH improved over XP all while remaining to look pretty without getting bogged down. I'm a cad guy running my own business so I run some pretty intense apps and all of the typical office applications and I am now working faster and more efficient than I ever have and I wait for nothing, a simple click and whatever I want running is there.

Hands down the best OS MS has ever made, my uptime right now is 3 days 18 hours, not alot but we are talking about a laptop that gets pounded day-in and day-out. The only reason that number is not higher is I purposely shut it off, now it's a challenge to see how long I can make it.

Yeah, give Vista some good quality hardware and it is a very nice O/S IMO. I've not had problems with it yet.

Vista has been fantastic for me. Sure, I'd like final WDDM drivers from Nvidia for my video card, but aside from that, I've had nothing but great experiences with this new OS. From its interface to the new peformance and monitoring tools, this is a wonderful evolution of the MS product line. I'm very happy.

And yes, the machine runs smoother than XP. Games are at about 90% of what they were under XP, which is pretty good for being on beta video drivers.

I'm actually a bit blown away here. I expected some hiccups and issues, but I've had no problems at all. This machine runs like a champ with Vista. Programs open and close with a SNAP. I did upgrade to 2GB but this was a smart move -- Vista actually takes advantage of that much memory. I expected to have a slightly slower machine overall and it's been the opposite. Between the additional memory and Vista's memory management, my computer feels faster than ever.

Same here. Absolutely no issues at all for me. It works flawlessly on my system, and runs better than XP did.

You can keep your worthless pain medication, I get better stuff from the VA anyways - which I will use in case I have to use an XP machine again.

Ditto. Running a Standard account mostly. I didn't attempt to install any beta drivers, I just used what Vista comes with.

UAC has been a source of bleating from people who (for some reason) want their Vista to behave like a glorified Windows98, but I think it's a feature whose time has come. Having used the low-rights approach on WinXP Pro and Win2000, I find Vista makes it easier. Give it a chance, people... it's like seatbelts in your car. You might have to fasten them 5,000 times before they save you from serious harm one day. Don't disable UAC lightly.

VA benefits are pretty nice but I think they don't cover family if you leave service. You should be covered for life though right?
