I haven't had the chance yet to read through the Rosy forums and catch up on 4 weeks of news, but I'm sure some of (hey Jim) would have posted here on TA anyway, if there were some important news, right?

Hey all! Below is a message from Rosetta@Home. Abort the WUs listed below. I had 3 of these buggers stuck on my machines today! Good news though: they are giving full credit for these stuck WUs!

Found a bug! David Baker and I just tracked down the problem with these 4 workunits. Its a stupid infinite loop that only occurs with proteins with lengths of exactly 44 residues using one particular mode of Rosetta -- somehow no one in our group had ever looked at a protein exactly that size! So TallGuy-13088, you predicted right ...

"Please do abort these workunits (below); otherwise, your client will continue to crunch the jobs until it times out (about 48 hours on a Windows machine). The good news is that we will give credit to all the jobs that time out, and are increasing the rigor of in-house testing to prevent this from happening in the future. And this little adventure helped us track down a pernicious bug in our code. Unfortunately, we don't yet have fixes for *all* the stuck jobs, though -- please continue to post info on other jobs that stop moving. It helps!

Jobs that should be aborted:
TRUNCATE_TERMINI_FULLRELAX_1enh__433
TRUNCATE_TERMINI_FULLRELAX_1b3aA_433
TRUNCATE_TERMINI_FULLRELAX_1ptq__433
TRUNCATE_TERMINI_FULLRELAX_2tif__433
"

I was starting to feel left out. Up until this morning I never had a WU get stuck. Today I had one of the 2tif ones get stuck for just short of 9 hours.

I feel special now.

Slowly but surely the bugs are getting squashed.

Happy to see I'm climbing in the stats! Will be adding more computers as time goes by.

How is the "Recent Average Credit" calculated???

Thanks!

If they are only giving credit for jobs that time out wouldn't it be better to let it do that then to abort it after it's been running for 22 hours or so? Are they still giving credit for aborted jobs?

That's a very good question, it would be wrong when you abort after 40hrs and get nothing, or when you let the 'loop' go and wait another 8hrs you get the credits....
Atleast it's a good thing to know for people who have a lot of systems running with limitid access to them.

Can't help you on that one Dennis, don't know the answer myself..

I abort them myself when I can get to them. I hate the thought of a machine just wasting its time.
