Router as hub?

I'm a goof here... I bought a regular 4-port Linksys router, and I have a USB DSL modem. So I was wondering if I can somehow share my USB modem through my computer to the other 2 computers. (so... I guess... DSL --> DSL modem --> my computer --> router --> other computers). Is there a way to make something like that work? Thanx in advance.

If you have a USB modem, I think you can set up a gateway PC. Just add an extra NIC into your computer, and set up ICS. Then all the other computers can connect to the internet through your computer. I'm not sure which jacks that you would connect your computer to...I think the WAN would go into your computer, and the other computers into the router. Since a router has a built in switch, it might work. Hope this helps.

Like ojai00 said, just add another NIC to your PC and enable ICS. It'll work, but you may want to turn off a lot of the router features on the linksys or else things may get complicated... like NAT and port forwarding if necessary.

In other words, the Router is now just a switch.

One important issue - Make sure to turn off the built-in DHCP server to the router, unless you really need to use it.
