Router for a single computer

Hi,

I use to share a broadband connection with my friend. Now he is moved out with his computer.
I was thinking that is it good to still keep the D-link router as it is and use it's firewall to protect my PC?
Or do you guys suggest that I get it off and then put a firewall on my computer (I don't wanna pay for the firewall so was thinking of the Tiny personal firewall).
Please do suggest what you think would be better.

Stick with the hardware firewall. Why change when you have something that works?

If you are only Software Firewall Outside "Hackers" can get to your computer and it is up to Firewall and their skills to pass the Firewall or Not.

If you are on a Router it does not get to the computer.

However it is a good idea to use both.

The added benefit of the router is that if someone brings a computer over for any reason, you have a place to plug it in. Maybe your new girlfriend?

Your router is doing a great deal more than just passing though your packets if your router dumps as much port probing as mine. Your CPU would have to do the same work otherwise - keep the router.

Thanx for your suggestions guys, me thinks i will keep the router in place.
btw, gunrunnerjohn I like your idea my "friends" can plug in their comps if i still keep the router in there.
