Linksys wrt54g router

Okay, I have connectivity connecting straight into the cable modem. When I try to connect through my router, I can't pull an ip. /release /renew shows an Autoconfig IP of 169.254.40.27, dns 255.255.0.0. This does not route properly, and I should be getting 192.168.1.1 which is what my router was set at.

This all started when I was trying to get my wife's laptop on the network using WPA security instead of WEP, which is what everything was working on this morning. I set the SSID to not broadcast and tried connecting manually to it with no luck. I went to Linksys' website to try and troubleshoot, out of frustration downloaded their crummy "Easylink connect" app, and fubar'd everything.

I've tried reinstalling my network card drivers, power cycling everything to no avail. Any suggestions?

You need to get rid of the DHCP lease for the NIC given by your cable provider. The easiest way to do it is.

1 - Power off, unplug the cable modem.

2 - Power off router.

3 - Wait 10 minutes or more.

4 - Power on Cable Modem.

5 - Wait about 5 minutes for the modem to power up, or less.

6 Power up the router.

If that does not work try resetting the default setting or reinstalling the Firmware.. even if it is the same version, sometimes they glitch up

Reset button on the router I hadn't noticed before did the trick and I was able to acquire a new lease. Thanks!
