I get back home from college, and my father informs me that he lost internet a week ago. He "fixed" the problem by taking the router out of the equation and connecting right to the cable modem. Problem solved.
Unfortunately, it's not as simple as "the router is broken." I tried a different cat5 and even a different router, and I still can not connect to the internet (I can, however, see his computer on the network). I can easily just take the router out and connect directly to the cable modem and everything works like a charm.
If it's not the computers, network cards, routers, cable modem, or cat5s, what is the problem?
