Router Shopping

I am new to networking. Can anyone recommend a basic router(wired or wireless) that won't suck my wallet dry. Since I am new to networking, I would like it to be as simple as possible. Basically, I want to network two computers together and share internet access via a cable modem. Your suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Pretty much any $20 - $40 router you'll find on sale at pretty much any store. Unless you have 12mbit cable modem or FiOS, a plain router will be more than fast enough. D-Link, Linksys, Netgear all make good routers.

Agreed, but I just learned they came out with a v5 which no longer runs the Linux-based firmware, and is crippled in other respects.

You know, I had the Sveasoft subscription for a year and never used it. The stock stuff has performed admirably, which is suprising for a comsumer product. The WRT54GS is definately on my Top Ten favorite pieces of hardware

Linksys WRT54GL

The "L" stands for linux, so it can be flashed with third party hardware. It also has double the memory of the GS so it will outperform under load. This is essentially a re-branded version of the earlier WRT54G v2 ~ 4 routers.

Should be about 70 bux @ Newegg and Zipzoomfly (among other stores).
