Rubio's is definitely Baja MEX. Fish tacos were pretty good but I didn't know that they were smothered with crema de leche.
I could have just as well have gone to Sons of Norway and had lutafisk. OK, that's simply not fair. I could eat Rubio's fish tacos every week of the year and I could barely eat lutefisk once a year. see http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~atman/ic/lutefisk.html for the reason as to why.

Fries were outstanding, fresh and HOT! Heat hot, not spicy.
Nothing that I tried there is very spicy...and I love HOT Mexican food...especially Chili Verde.
But I'm addicted to the spicy hot Colorado and New Mexico foods, and have been for 45 years.
BTW, $1 fish tacos were only available Tuesdays 4PM to closing. Maybe a local thing. I'll go back, I just won't go out of my way.
Again, Thanks Irad. Coupons are the only way to go in Denver when visiting Rubio's.

We used to have Taco John's but all except 1 has/have faded from the Denver scene. And although Del Taco isn't bad, I would not rate them as good. I have yet to try their fish taco. If you love fish and have ever eaten a Whaler from Burger King, you'll know why. - shudder!

Discovered Taco John's in Casper, WY...Franchise originates out of Cheyenne.

Only place on earth to get the beef burrito slathered with a pencil thick stripe of their :evil:green:evil:hot:evil:sauce.
I may have put their tater-tots w/nacho-cheese sauce on the menu.
That was before they toned down all of their sauces to stupid-beloved patriot style.
Whenever we make a trip to Casper or further north, all the kids know Pa will definitely be stopping at the T/Js in Wheatland.
BTW, Billings was my first encounter w/ Del Taco. My nephew and I were in BIL for Black Friday at Best Buy. Sure is cold at 3AM out on the sidewalk in front of Best Buy. But we were like, 6th in line.

Edited: You're right, no one has tater tots like T/Js!

Yeah..what idiots...I'm sure they are crying all the way to the bank over this marketing blunder.

Seriously...if you don't like seafood/fish then you're obviously not going to like fish tacos. But for anyone that likes seafood/fish and Mexican food (and I'm not talking about Del 'Taco' Bell) a fish taco when done right is delicious.

Not dead yet at the Rubios by my house. Just stopped by and the fish tacos are still $1 and the beer battered frys are still only 0.23 cents. It looks like the fry promotion has to do with it being their 23rd year in business. I wonder if they will run it the whole year?

Just went a couple of days ago after seeing this thread. The tacos left much to be desired. The fries were ok though. I definitely wouldn't go back again.
