Well, least I didnt wait 7-8 months before getting my Q9650 on the same token, I've only had it running for about a week and under a EK supreme

EDIT: i think we have AMD to thank for these price cuts

And I paid like 400$ for my Q9450... That was quite a while ago though πŸ˜› People planning an upgrade rejoice! A Q9550 for 268$... That's crazy low!

Finally we see some decent price cuts on Core 2 Quads, which have stayed pretty equal in price for quite some time. We have AMD's Phenom II to thank for that, having provided the first good competition in quite a while.

These price cuts are going to require AMD to lower prices as well if they want to compete - good for everyone except AMD of course. The Phenom II 940 will have to drop to ~$220-230 and the 920 down to ~$180-190 to compete with the Q8300.

Not so bad though, for AMD. They have already been anticipating cutting prices a month or 2 after the PhII release. This may accelerate their schedule a bit because of this.

Current PhII pricing includes the "early adopter tax".

Argh...Q9650 pricing looks lovely if it's true.

That's a guaranteed 4+ GHz with a decent board & cooler.

Is that Q9950s a typo, or has Intel been hiring people from nVidia's branding department?

I know, but given the clock and cache, Q9550s is the only name that makes any sense

On no. Just when I thought I was done upgrading. Those Q9650s are very sweet. At least I can liquidate my E8600 to cover most of the cost. That is an awesome price drop. Looks like a Penryn quad-core is in my future!

Q9550 - Q9400 - Q8200
Run @ 95W max TDP

Q9950s - Q9400s - Q8200s
Run @ 65W max TDP

Low power quads FTW! These will be ideal for a "muscular" HTPC build where you want to do heavy video encoding on the HTPC instead of on another system & transfer to the HTPC.

But I don't like how they priced these chips. The Q9400s is the best value with only a $40 premium (would pay for itself in about a year if you pay $0.15/kwh and run your system 24/7) while the others are kinda ridiculous at $72 & $99 for the Q8200 & Q9550 respectively.

Now, do I drop a Q9400s in my system or wait a year for the 32nm i7 revision (Westmere)...

Where is quad core for under $100 for poor pp like me? LOL. Wish CPU price drop would be like the flat screen plasma/lcd price drop. Well, I'll still keep dreaming. πŸ™‚

I may pick up a QX9650 when they drop to that. Of course, Nehalem might be a better route since I would want a new motherboard. Not sure the IP35-E can last much longer.

Intel tightly controls the QX prices. I dont really see a reason that you would need an unlocked multi on the 9650 anyway, unless you were planning a water setup.

Right here.

Ewww... TLB-error-laden low clocked POS.

But it is a quad for <$100. πŸ˜€

Yeah, I meant Q9650... The X was a typo, though I wouldn't mind if those dropped in price too... πŸ˜€ I'd pay a $100 premium for unlocked multi πŸ˜€

BTW - I do have a water setup. πŸ˜€
