Running out of ideas

I am trying to install Vista 64 on a machine and after it says windows is loading files goes away I come across the infamous BSOD. Sometimes the message says IRQL something something, then sometimes it says Page fault in non page area.

I have asked my best friend, google, but it seems like this error message can be tied to anything both sotfware and hardware. I ran PC Check all night last night and woke up to see all the tests it ran on hardware all passed. It did test memory and hard drive for errors but came up nothing.

I have unplugged everything from the machine except for the HD and CD drive. I have tried one stick of memory and still no luck. I have tried installing XP 32-bit thinking it was a 64bit issue but still same problem with XP 32bit. I did try a different power supply and still same issue.

I am running out of ideas on what to do. I actually did run to microcenter and picked up a new motherboard thinking it might have been the motherboard but it wasn't so now I am stuck with a motherboad since Microcenter wont let me return it.

My question is can you guys think of anything else I can try to successfully install either Vista or XP?Huh?? Although I ran a hardware check I still have this feeling it's something to do with hardware compatibility issues with XP and vista but I I haven't been able to pin point which hardware it is. BIOS settings default or tweaked? Did you change memory timings without changing the voltage? If you can toggle hdd mode from IDE to AHCI, try that. Are you using any kind of bridge chips for a device? Like a sata to ide converter or something?

All I have for now. Are you saying it bluescreens soon after you boot the install cd?

all default settings. Nothing has been changed. Gateways bios won't allow much change lol I havent tried to toogle with IDE and AHCI yet and thanks for that idea. No converters.

yeah when it boots to the Vista install disk its a grey bar and when it loads up all the way from left to right it all of a sudden BSOD

Found this quote while googling around for IRQL:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL is also often caused by Logitech's Desktop Mouse support software in later versions. To solve this problem simply update to the most recent version which includes a fix to prevent such problems from arising.

Try taking out your mouse.

Also try booting into safe mode.

Never used PCcheck, so I don't know how good its memory checker is. But bad memory is often the cause of problems like you're having. Try memtest to be sure.

I seldom get to a MicroCenter (too far away), but every time I've been there, they have a bunch of returned mbs. Why wouldn't they let you return?
