So if I had to pick between Texas Roadhouse and Longhorn for a generic chain steak experience, which one?
Ribeye is 100% what I'll get.

Both are similar. Just cook at home. You can do better. So if I had to pick between Texas Roadhouse and Longhorn for a generic chain steak experience, which one?

Texas Road House is good too. I don't mind a Choice cut if it's actually good and prepared well. I'm sure LongHorn and TRH all vary as much as other chains across the country.
Now, if you want to spend some $$$$, the absolute best steak and restaurant experience I've ever had was at this place in Troy MI:
They have an actual movie-style maitre d, the waiter is more like a butler than anything else, and every single thing they put on the table made my eyes bug out in absolute amazement. I took my wife there for our anniversary, and the bill came to $400 ($300 and I tipped $100), but we'll never forget the experience. The waiter put a rose under the table and slipped it in my hand to give my wife when we were being seated, he put rose petals on the table and had the staff sign a card to us, then they put free desserts in front of us at the end of the meal. Incredible:

Now I just need a $10000 searing oven to make steaks like they do

Longhorn is in roughly the same quality category as Texas Roadhouse for steaks IME although the Longhorn located near me in North Haven CT is a bit below par... personally I'd give TR the (slight) edge.
Pegging kitchen overlord @Kaido
I used to like both of them, a long time ago.So if I had to pick between Texas Roadhouse and Longhorn for a generic chain steak experience, which one?

what, no outback?I used to like both of them, a long time ago.
When I first moved to Manassas in 2008 my mom dragged me to Logans Roadhouse and I had my first and only PERFECT steak.
That is a feat which has not been repeated since.
In fact, over the years the quality slow dropped to the point where they are roughly equal to Applebees or Ruby Tuesday. Which is pretty fuckin sad.
Their prices have gone up too.
Outback steaks are 90% seasoning, 10% beef.what, no outback?
also, what made the steak at Logans perfect?
I can't verify for sure, but according to a 2010 article I found(yes, it's aged Prime}
Doe's only sells the top 12% of beef by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) grading standards. The top 12% is a mixture of USDA Prime and the top tier of USDA Choice beef.
I've eyeballed it a few times, but haven't taken the plunge yet. I suppose at worst I feel like I wasted a few bucks...Man, I'm doing a 2 day per week fasting diet. Today I'm fasting. And was stupid enough to read this thread. Now all I can think about is a juicy prime ribeye.
OH, I have one recommendation in relation to Wagyu. Try the Wagyu ground beef which is now selling at many supermarkets, for homemade burgers. Very, very tasty and it's usually on sale for ~$6/lb.
If I fast I really, really need bread! That's what I obsesse about. Really good bread!Man, I'm doing a 2 day per week fasting diet. Today I'm fasting. And was stupid enough to read this thread. Now all I can think about is a juicy prime ribeye.
I can get sourdough from my local supermarket. On sale 2.50If I fast I really, really need bread! That's what I obsesse about. Really good bread!
the meat was fantastic and also it was cooked to perfection. I ordered medium and it came out medium and the flavor was better than it has ever been before.what, no outback?

So it's still good quality beef, but it could still be USDA choice and it wont always be USDA prime.
ok, because of you, i had the 12oz filet mignon ($70) instead of my usual 18oz ribeye ($60) at the steak place called Prime Rib.The only expensive steakhouse I've been to was a Charley's in Florida. I enjoyed it - I think I got a filet mignon.
The steak literally melted in my mouth, which I always thought was BS, so that was pretty cool.

ordered it medium.
it was soft and tender but wasnt melt in my mouth.
and i thought the ribeye tasted better
You really shouldn't cook filet beyond medium-rare, and I personally prefer rare.ordered it medium.
