s-video to DVI/VGA?

Is there a way to connect an s-video source to a DVI- or VGI-input monitor? I would like to use my Playstation2 or VCR/DVD player on my monitor. I could opt for a high-end LCD with DVI and s-video inputs, but that's a lot of money.

The dell 2001fp has s-video and rca inputs. It's not going to be an HD signal...but i'm sure it would look ok.

You can even do Picture in Picture with your desktop and ps2 in the corner. haha...

that's not exactly what I want though. I already have a nice LCD monitor, but it doesn't have an s-video input. I would rather not buy a new LCD just to get the s-video.

doesn't anyone know of an s-video to DVI/VGA converter?

You could always purchase a TV Tuner (like the WinFast2000 XP Deluxe) for about $50 or so, that will take any video signal into the PC, it just uses a decent amount of CPU overhead.

You have a few options.

1. Get a dedicated VGA box for the PS2.

Pros:
-Easy to do, no drivers to mess around with, no need to open your PC.
-Relatively inexpensive

Cons:
-This has the drawback of having to unplug it when you are done with PS2 and want to get back on the PC.
- Likely wont work with PC sound. You'll need to buy a seperate adapter and connect it to the 'line in' of your sound card.

2. As the previous poster suggested, get a TV tuner or AIW type card that accepts input connections.

-Pros:
-No need to disconnect your PS2 from PC after you are done gaming.
-Can easily record and edit movies of your gaming session(s) if desired
-Audio works right through your PC audio setup

-Cons:
-can be costly (if you choose the AIW route).
-relatively difficult install. installation requires opening up your PC and quite a bit of drivers/software to install.

Hmm, out of these I personally perfer #2. I am not saying these are the only 2 ways to do it, but these are probably the most common ways this type of thing is accomplished. If you currently have a card with Vivo you can also basically use this along with the same audio adapter you need in setup #1.

The P1.6 should be fine, it really just depends on your setup and what you are currently doing. Newegg is where I bought mine, a whole bunch of people have reviewed this card and their reviews are here. Mostly if you are just viewing and not recording anywhere from 1%-10% CPU usage is normal, if recording anything from 20%-100% is normal, depending on your system/OS and drivers, I had no problems on my 1800+ (1.53Ghz) CPU usage got up to maybe 30% at most when not viewing and up to 90% when recording in DVD format.

The WinFast TV card looks interesting. How exactly would this work with my Playstation2? I cannot tell from the WinFast website if it has the standard RCA video+audio input jacks.

Also, would the Playstation's video and audio simply pass directly through this PCI card to my monitor and speakers?

finally, I'm assuming you can use this card to record a video+audio signal. I have several old VHS tapes I'd like to convert to DVD. What kind of framerates would I expect to get from WinFast card? I have a 3Ghz P4 with 1 GB of RAM.

KVM is the workaround here. They are relatively inexpensive.

1. Yes they have the RCA, but it's an adapter that takes those and adapts them to an s-video in. The adapter comes with the card.

2. In a sense yes (you can make it fullscreen and not know a difference), but no you must go through the software provided, which has bugged out on me about twice in a year, but does it's job well (especially for the price I paid, I think about 42 bucks for the retail package), very good bundle provided with this, helps make good looking DVDs w/frontends and all.

3.With that machine, beautiful framerates, at least 30 minimum which is plenty for VHS -> DVD conversions. Shouldn't eat up much cpu time on that system while recording either.

good. there's a thread about TV tuner and PS2. what is the difference between VGA adapter, TV tuner box, or TV tuner card in term of picture quality? my budget is under 60. and, if i play my PS2.. how is the picture quality compares to TV? and i have radeon 8500.

edit: another thing is, i dont care much about watching TV using my computer.
