What would you over clock a 6800 Ultra to?

I want to overclock it to 500Mhz like an x850xt.

Suggestions?

ive never killed a vid card overclocking it but you'll notice a performance decrease or artifacts if you overclock it too high and 500 is generally a bit too high for a ultra. its a different core so you cant really compare its 400Mhz w/ the x850xts 500Mhz. You should detect optimal frequencies for starters

Haha, 500mhz for an Ultra. Won't happen.

Try 425mhz to start off with. If its runs fine, then bump up the core by 5mhz until artifacts appear. If artifacts appear already, then lower down by 5 until they're gone. I then go one step down as my final level. For example, my 6800Ultra can hit 440mhz stable with no artifacts, but I run it at 435mhz for everyday settings. My memory does about 1230-1250mhz stable, and I have it at 1200mhz for everyday settings.

1200mhz DDR, for those that are, like

to explain where 1200mhz came from

the operationg frequeny is 600mhz but since its dual data rate

the effective speed is 1200mhz

Hello, AlexR, and welcome to the forums. An artifact is the result of having your memory clock set to high when overclocking. It's little flashes here and there. When you're graphics core is set to high your game will just freeze and you'll have to reboot your computer.

DDR (Double Data Rate) memory can send data on both the rising edge and falling edge of the clock. DDR2 can send 4 pieces of data and is twice as fast as DDR at the same clock frequency. DDR2 does have latency issues and the timings right now are not as tight as DDR but they will be in a year or so.

to br clear, until you become more exprienced, dont push it beyod 10%core and ram. that's relatively safe.
