Hello, I should be ordering the rest of my parts soon as seen in sig. I was planning on buying from Monarch, but it came out to be a tad too expensive. However, I configured the same cart at ZipZoomFly.com. It was much cheaper ($70 cheaper + free shipping). Personally, I don't care when the product gets to me, just as long as it arrives in good condition. Is ZZF a good place to order from for my first build?

BTW, Newegg is out of the picture do to sales tax for TN residents.

I've bought from them before and they are good. Almost as good as NewEgg in terms of speed of shipping and all that. I bought my GFX card from them.

Zipzoomfly is a great place. i have ordered from them over the years and just ordered half of my parts from them last week. Arrived very fast and I am very happy. I would rank them just as good as newegg, but with a harder to navigate website. their Free second day shipping applies to nearly everything and is really great.

Yes, the main issue with them and Monarch is that "in stock" status is not always true.

You can use Advanced Search to find more opinions if you don't get enough replies.

I echo that statement!

Yeah, ZZF is great. They often have lower prices than newegg and free shipping on most items. There website i kinda a pain, but if you know what you are looking for, its not too big a deal.

ZZF, Monarch, NewEgg, ChiefValue - all good places. I usually compare prices between these main 4 when purchasing hardware.

ZZF is great. They called my house to verify a payment and that warrants an A+ in my book.

I've used them before, in fact just bought a K8N-DL mobo from them and a PCI Express 6600GT from Newegg last week on the same day. They both shipped out on the same date but the mobo actually came in a day before the video card (to Fort Worth, TX).

ZZF is a reliable place to buy equipment from. However their return policy is a bit less attractive than Newegg's. I bought a new hard drive from ZZF that arrived DOA. You must obtain an RMA from ZZF within 15 days from the date the item was shipped. Since a few days tick away while in transit, you have a relatively short time to install and make sure the new equipment is fine before the clock runs out. You have to pay for shipping on all returned items. Claim for missing accessories or product not as advertised must also be reported within 15 days from the date item is shipped. RMA requests are done via the internet.

Inded, ZZF is a fine place to buy from. They generally have good prices, and the free shipping on most items is very nice.

E-Tailers Ranked:

1. Newegg - Everyone has ordered something from newegg at one time or another
2. Zip Zoom Fly - Former Googlegear; slightly younger than Newegg, but excellent service
3. Outpost - Very reputable company; customer service is very nice; excellent sales and prices
4. SVC - Silicon Valley Compucycle - Smaller than the others but has some more specific items than the others; shipping is kind of slow
5. Monarch Computer - Very new; quickly gaining an excellent reputation

Frozen CPU - I feel like this belongs in a different league than the others; sells highly modified parts; very specialized parts such as phase change; prices kind of high

Those are all that i can think of at the moment.

ZZF is fine , IF you don't have to do a RMA... It took me 6 weeks to resolve a problem w/ a A8N-SLI mobo that I got from them.

Newegg took 5 days from when I returned and received the replacement mobo...

Regards,
Jose

I've run into this as well. Just because ZipZoomFly lists the item as "In Stock" does not mean you will receive it! I had an account with them, but had never ordered from them before, until 7/12/05.

I checked ZipZoomFly on Tuesday night 7/12 and found the X2 4800+ "In Stock", so I quickly ordered it. I kept checking the status the next day from work, but it was stuck in the "Processing" stage all day. Come to find out, they had called my house on the 13th while I was at work to confirm my address since I was a first time customer. I got the message after work. I think that delay cost me my CPU. I called them back that night to confirm. I went to work on Thursday, and again, the status was "Processing" all day. I'm starting to get upset, I mean, 2 full days of processing? Finally, Thursday night 7/14, the status changes to "Packed" then "Shipped" and I received an email with my FedEx tracking number. I went to sleep happy.

Next day, Friday 7/15, I check the status online from work, click on the Tracking number, and find that it hasn't even been picked up. FedEx lists it as "Package data transmitted to FedEx". I came home after work and found an email saying that it is backordered, ETA is 7/20. What the **** ?? The website said it was "Packed"! Did they "pack" an empty box?!? I still have a shred of hope, so I wait it out.

Now its Friday, 7/22, same FedEx status. So I call customer service. They are very friendly, she tells me that the processor is expected in on Monday. I ask if there is a long waiting list, and will I be guaranteed one, and she says Yes. Yeah, right. I know better at this point.

Tuesday, 7/25, still "Package data transmitted to FedEx". I expected this.

Yesterday, 7/27, I sent an email to customer service asking how I can order an item listed as "In Stock" with an orange check-mark, and how they can "Pack" and "Ship" a non-existant item, and even issue a dummy FedEx number if they were out of stock.

I got a reply a reply this morning:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your inquiry. We do understand that this item was listed on our web site as being in stock at the time you had placed your order. Unfortunately, due to unexpected high demands, that item is now on back order. We do not hold items when you place an order and only pack an order after it is processed. The new ETA date is 8/05/05 and is not firm. Packed means "Receiving any items in your order that need to come from other locations". Please advise if you need to cancel this item or if you are willing to wait it. Please note that if this item is cancelled, we cannot hold the item for you or guarantee the price at a later date. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Thank You for shopping with us!
ZipZoomFly.com

Also, keep in mind that they still charge your credit card for a back-ordered item that has not shipped yet.

Of course, the X2 4800+ is out of stock all over the net, so I understand that it is back-ordered. I just feel like I've been misled.

Any potential ZipZoomFly customers, just keep in mind that if you order something that is listed as "In Stock", that does not mean it will still be available after they finish processing your order. And I didn't like the delay from being called to confirm my address. My billing and shipping addresses were identical, they could have verified my address with my credit card company. And it really pisses me off that they issued me a FedEx tracking number on the 14th, knowing full well that it was back-ordered. It just shows me that their billing and shipping processes are screwed up.

5. Monarch Computer - Very new; quickly gaining an excellent reputation

Just to note, Monarch Computers has been around for a long time (at least since 2000; you can see reviews on resellerratings going back that far). They used to focus much more on complete systems, however, so many people did not know they sold parts as well (or did not think to order parts from them).

I've ordered from Newegg (no problems, prices a little high) ZipZoomFly (fast shipping, no problems, but similarly high prices) Monarch (Great prices, but had the back-ordered in-stock item issue as well, had to wait for stuff to ship) and Chumbo (I'm surprised they haven't been mentioned, good prices and EXTREMELY fast shipping: free 2nd day fedex!)

I'm probably gonna order a SATA HD from Monarch within the next couple of days, no tax and relatively quick shipping if it's in stock. However, i just ordered the Dell 2405 for 803+tax so it may be a while before I have any money. =p
