Hi, everyone. I have been wondering if somebody here could tell me what the sales figures are like for DIY computers for the 12 months in a year. What I'm really looking for is a chart (month vs million of units sold) preferably in a recession-proof year, say.... 2006 would be good.

And at the end of the day, hopefully I would be able to tell if a person is more likely to build a computer in the summer or winter. Something like that. Thanks in advance.

DIY implies buying the parts and building a PC yourself.

How in the world would you expect to compile a chart for PCs "sold" (which they aren't) when you're going entirely upon individual component sales?

You could tie it to CPU or case sales. There will be some error, but it would give a good insight into the year long trends.

I don't think this would provide data with any sort of accuracy, and if not, then there's little point to something like this.

Maybe a separate chart for CPU, Mobo, and Case sales, then take the average of the three? Might help cut down on error.

people are most likely to build a computer in the winter or spring... unless you are a WOW addict.

People either build them for christmas presents, or after they recieve their tax refunds.
/thread.

Edit: sorry you wanted a graph...

The real question is if we help you compile this information do we get credited with a footnote in your paper?

Good luck, the only reason sales data is compiled is for investors in companies or financial record on a balance sheet(assets&debts)/income statement(cost of goods sold/profit).

To find data like that for kicks, you'd have to ping every company that manufactures and resells the components and there are too many to count. If you're doing this for a school project, pick another topic.

Just take a graph of the big box makers and figure 1 for every 50000? Sound about right?

the 42nd day of the 42nd month which coincidentally is in the 42nd season.

You may be able to access Newegg/Tiger/etc sales figures to find out the hot months though.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I would be happy just to have Intel or AMD CPU sales figures.
