Samsung 46" TV

I have a Samsung ln46b650t!fxza 46" TV from 2009. I thought I was getting a 1080p picture, display says 720p. How do I get 1080?

Make sure the source is outputting 1080 to the TV. Cable or Satellite set the options on the device. The TV will upscale everything to 1080p.

What do you mean by "the display says"?

Networks only output in specific resolution. I haven't checked in a long time, but I recall that Fox used to only output their broadcasts in 720p compared to ABC/NBC/CBS which would output in 1080i. Something about the amount of sports Fox broadcasts, in particular NASCAR, where lower resolution progressive is better than higher resolution interlacing. ...or something.

So, if "the display" that you are talking about is the information panel from your cable box or antenna menu as you change channels, then it might just be the resolution from that specific network. If you are talking about menu settings from the TV specifically, then that's another issue.

yes it should be in your cable settings,if not its in you TV settings. Make sure the network you are viewing is actually broadcasting in 1080p

I'm fairly certain there is no broadcast 1080p. Even cable and satellite that might say 1080p are just deinterlaced 1080i or upscaled 720p.
