Disk benchmarls also highly depend on the rest of the system. I have a Samsung 256GB 830 in my work laptop, which is a 2007 Dell Inpiron 9400 (Core 2 Duo T7200). This can only run the drive in IDE mode, and I'm running Windows 7, 32-bit.

As you can see, my numbers are way lower than what others get, do to the specs of my system - which is why you should't just go off of benchmarks.

WEI: 6.7

What I can say is the drive is a noticeable improvement over the older Samsung 128GB 430 that I used to use. The older Samsung drive always seemed slower than my other SSDs (mostly Intel).

You won't notice any real-life difference between an 830 and an M4.

I am running the 830 on the intel Sata 2 ports, still benches higher than when on the Marvell Sata3 ports with the latest beta drivers from Asus. WEI score is lower on thr Intel though(7.7 versus 7.9 withthe Marvell controller)

WEI is useless. My Vertex 2 scores a 7.7 on it. A new Samsung 830 will score a 7.9. But we all know the 830 is a whole lot more than 2.6% faster than a Vertex 2, right?

Don't base your decision on WEI. Look at actual benchmarks.

Im 34 years old and has nothing to do with my post. I asked a simple question,, you wanna shoot me now with a gun or stab me ????

Tweakboy, neither

You did ask a simple question and I thought that I answered it simply.

You won't notice any real difference between the drives and WEI isn't something to base a score on. Who knows what Microsoft is using to come up with that score - more than likely it is some sort of sequential read/write test, which gives you only a window to the drive's actual performance.

Scores are even dependent on other hardware (RAM, CPU, etc) and even how that hardware is operating on that given day (hotter hardware may not perform as well and super cold hardware may not perform as well).

Regardless, I just picked up the 830 and it's fine. It'll be "outdated" before I know it and price will soon drop to a "reasonable" level for the average consumer.

You probably would have just been better off answering A or B. He's been a member here for 2 1/2 years and has over 4000 posts, yet my 70 year old mother who can't even spell "keyboard" knows more about computers than he allegedly does.

830s work fine. Never used a single drive but I can confirm that lots of them in RAID0 work fine on Areca 188x SAS hosts.

My MBPs have M4s and also never had an issue with them either.

I don't know what the OP's obsession with WEI is. If you open a command prompt and type 'winsat disk' without '' it will provide more information.

It looks like WEI is in Win8 as well, and it goes up to 9.9. I wish it went to 11. Everything is better when you have a system that goes to 11!

Goodness sake.

If it helps you out that much, my 128GB Samsung 830 scores 7.9 in WEI. Here is my CDM:

This is my 256Gb:

I have a 256GB one.
It works.
Which is about as much as I need to know about it.
There was an issue, when I first wrote to it, copying my steam folder from my C300 (128GB) to the 830, were after a few seconds explorer kind of died, came back, and then went on copying, but slower than I would have expected.
Other than that, it's been running for a few months now, with absolutely no issues at all.
I've never felt really IO-limited, but then that has already been the case with the slower C300. Since that replaced an almost decade old RAID0 of 80GB hard-disks, I can't say anything about incremental speed increases. SSD makes no noise, and is fast enough.

I see no reason to benchmark, as long as everything appears to be working.
