If I were inclined to get a device that big, I'd just get the Sony Ultra.

Spec-wise it's about as good as the GS3 and One X of yesteryear with a souped up screen; that's plenty for most people.

IMO its like a galaxy tab 2 7" that makes calls.

with even lamer performance, which says a lot given that tab 2 uses a lame mediatek chip i think

I kinda like the idea, I think it's specs are "good enough" and the large screen is just a bonus. But the price ($450~) is just too high right now. Why buy this when you can get a top of line high end phone for about $150 more?

I'd consider one if they were ~$200.

I think it's a nice choice for someone who just wants a phone with a big ass screen. Compared to the Xperia Z Ultra, it has smaller bezels and doesn't need on screen buttons. The specs are midrange but so is the price. For being a very high end device with a high end price, it's very strange that the Xperia Z Ultra doesn't have an LED flash :/

I do think this (and the Z Ultra) will be more niche devices than the Note series, especially in the US due to their size and weight.

However this is certainly a mid-range device that at $450 isn't bad. I think I saw on engadget that the LTE Z Ultra would go for around $730 which puts them at very different markets.

The existence of the Note line makes my interest in the Mega zero.
But the Note devices typically debut at $299 on-contract, whereas the Mega will be $149 on-contract.

Samsung's incremental cost of introducing this device is extremely low, but the tactic of filling all possible niches in the smartphone arena has worked for them so far. It's a poor man's Note, and it will likely move a ton of units.

I wonder how noticeable 720p to 1080p would be on such a small screen.

Galaxy Note II: 267 ppi
Galaxy Mega: 233 ppi
iPad (Retina): 264 ppi
iPad Mini: 163 ppi

Noticeable? Probably not.

Well ,i think that there must be a certain market for it cos it's SAMSUNG brand, many people run after SAMSUNG,even though specs don't seem that attractive.

Oh I'm sure there's a market for it, but after using a Note I just can't see myself buying a similar device without things like a stylus.
