Samsungs 226BW can do 1080P?

I've had this monitor for awhile now and the mfg. specs list the max resolution as 1680x1050, but I just recently got a PS3 and hooked it up via a HDMI to DVI cable, and to my surprise, the monitors OSD is showing 1920x1080 while running the PS3.

Is the monitor actually running at 1080P? Anyone else using this monitor with a PS3 know what the deal is?

Nobody bothered to answer you because is not such a smart question. Like you said, the maximum resolution and the only TRUE one is 1680x1050 pixels, even if your input signal reported by your monitor is 640x480, 1024x768, 1280x1024 or 1920x1080. No matter the input, you use all of your 1680x1050 pixels and not more.

Actually even my Samsung 17" inputted 1080i to some extent. The menu wasn't available, though. See if your OSD works.

Rather, see if you can adjust anything in your OSD. Mine would lock me out. And it certainly is downscaling (I think this is what the "UXGA safe mode" is in the specs of that monitor).

ok, thanks. I figured it was still down scaling, I just found it odd that the OSD was reporting the 1080P signal. Yes, everything still adjusts ok in the osd's menu.
