I've heard (don't remember where) that their was a "problem" with the camera.

I could be wrong with some details but I saw the end of a news report and non police investigators were not able to pass, slowly walk or crawl past the camera without it recording.

I saw a report on Fox26 and they said that it was impossible to sneak past the jail camera. Several people including investigator had tried to do so and failed to pass without the camera be activated every time.

What I find so astonishing about this thread is the apparent inability of so many of the commenters here to actually not even approximately comprehend what they see. They can look at the actual incident and conclude imbecility. For years and years now I have always said that instead of having to see something to believe it, you have to believe something to see it.

jeez, i just noticed this was on front page of CNN. So pathetic they are using her sad situation for financial exploitation. Completely unnecessary coverage.

Why is she dead?! Who Killed her!? Find out next, on CNN Uncovers Mysteries:
Next episode: Let's talk to her friends who said she was a good person and couldn't "fathom" she would take her own life. If so, then who MURDERED HER?!!?!!?! Coming up next on special CNN series: Mountain out of a molehill. Who is Officer so and so? Why were there no clouds? What did Obama say? Find out next!

Upcoming special: Find out the most retweeted tweets about #mystery

This is like Bigfoot is real coverage

They must have a autobot news filter for white cop arrests black person stories and feeds them into a generic What if? What do you need to know? Who is? format.

If this woman had just cooperated she would have been on her way. Her desire for a confrontation like so many others is the direct cause of their exits from society.

If this cop had just let her smoke (like she legally had the right to) she would have been on her way. His desire to confront her like a power tripping asshole like so many other cops is the direct cause of many exits from society.

Agreed. It's actually like I watched a totally different video than most on this forum. All he had to do was write the ticket and move on. Did he want a Thank you from the woman for writing her a ticket? Part of an officers job is mitigating situations not escalating them. I'm sure he's had enough traffic stops to realize people aren't happy by them.

In a way, she also confronted him like a power tripping asshole.

Her exit of society was nothing but her own choice, how could you blame anyone else but her?

Why not blame the person who gave her that sour attitude before the cop showed up? Why not blame the mental health society for not effectively treating people with power tripping personality disorders? Why not blame the US government for having laws to enforce, thus creating these confrontational meetings between government officials and citizens?

How about we just lay the blame where it is, with the person who really has the only choice. The person themselves.

I'm having trouble understanding why a traffic stop turned into a 3 day jail stay, I know she was rude, I know she probably kicked the cop but 3 days imprisonment for that did they charge her with any crime?
I also believe when the police remove someone's freedom they are now responsible to keep that person safe this includes safe from themselves.

You stay in jail for any charge unless you bond out. Otherwise you wait for your court date to see the judge and the judge decides whether or not you can be released pending additional court dates. I only am familiar with this because I worked as a clerk a long time ago, but each place is different I guess. Some small towns are notorious for being overzealous with bond amounts and jail time.

It sounds like the total bond for her charges, from the stories, was $5000.00. The family and her didn't have the $500.00 to bond out or perhaps the will to bond her out. If she kicked the cop as the story alleges, I'm sure it was assault, interfering (for not getting out of the car when asked), and the lane violation or whatever.

If you stay in jail long enough, by the time you go to court the judge might just say "Time served" and say see you later.

I find the whole Sandra Bland case sad and strange, and I am gratified the DoJ is investigating it. I wish she had never been arrested in the first place. She and the officer each could have handled this situation better. She could have simply politely cooperated, and he could have given her more room to express herself without escalating the situation.

Both were rude; but 1 of them is trained, and even licensed/certified, for this encounter.

This video shows why people do not like police as much and their likability is dropping all the time.
He gave her the ticket and that should have been the end of it. Instead he tells her to stop smoking, nothing illegal there, and then escalates it even more. His actions and demeanor show he should not be a cop. But of course he will get a slap on the wrist, some paid vacation, and be right back at it.

Clearly we can't all be fools so there must be an alien invasion taking place where each of us is shown a different reality and left to kill ourselves to determine who is right.

Did that for sure happen?

If so, he is screwed as far as ordering her to do anything. And don't be so sure about the punishment, almost every story we've had lately where the officer messed up criminally, they were fired or even charged with a crime.

People forget that the fact you drive away with a ticket for a traffic violation is a luxury, not a right.

Are you fucking kidding?

"Oh thank you massuh! Thank you fuh only givin' me a ticket instead of shootin' me in the head massuh!"

You boot-licking cop-worshiping fascists are disgusting.

I'd have to rewatch the video. I thought he gave her the warning ticket. Then they started going back and forth before he told her to put our her cigarette which escalated the whole thing.

Edit: Ok he did not give her the ticket before asking her to put our her cigarette in the video posted by the OP.

She wouldn't have even made it to jail if she just listened and complied.

So she should comply with his orders to put out her cigarette and then... complain about that later? Yes, I'm sure the cop shop would be happy to take her complaint and put it in the round file.

You are so delusional. Committing a crime puts you in court. A ticket signed is your promise to go to court. Have you never been pulled over and given a ticket before?

If you don't sign it, the cops will usually tell you that they will have to arrest you because they don't have your promise to go to court.

But since any compliance = "shootin' me in the head massuh!", I bet you just hammer down the gas on your unregistered car because then you would be bowing down to "boot-licking cop-worshiping fascists"

Why is that citizens are the only people ever expected to cooperate? Comply. Follow orders. Do what you're told.

Cops? Nah, they just do whatever the fuck they want and rarely face consequences.

Where's the corresponding respect from the law?

So you're saying cops have no choice? They're not people?

Let's review what you just said, numnuts: "A ticket is a luxury."

Do you even listen to yourself? Do you realize how insane you sound?

A ticket is a fine. Paying it is admission of guilt. You can choose to fight it, but the ticket itself is the judge and jury unless you go back and fight it.

You know what? I'd love it if they stopped giving tickets and went to hauling you right to the station for a traffic violation. Keep those pigs busy with a single traffic stop and away from the population as long as possible.

Yeah, tickets are luxury: for the state.

If that cop acted like a professional this wouldn't have happened either. But expecting some power tripping pig to do things right is asking too much. Especially since they are their little sycophants running around defending them at every opportunity.

It's a luxury because you don't have to sign it or acknowledge it's existence. The fact you can sign a ticket and not have to be immediately wrapped into a (admittedly crooked) criminal justice system, that sounds like a pretty big damn luxury to me.

Perhaps if police just made full custody arrests for every violation, people would start to appreciate that "luxury"

Getting a ticket is not a "right". You have no right to demand a ticket.
