Good luck Kevin!

I recommend the Princeton Review's books. I don't know if they've been updated for the new test, but they had a number of useful tips when I took the test many moons ago.

Agreed. I like Princeton review over Barron's/Peterson's. 10 Real SAT's worked, but I don't know if it is applicable now.

Too lazy to read the whole thing - but keep in mind a lot of universities don't just take the highest score, they will average them.

1. The new SAT
2. I heard something about them ditching the writing portion

However:

Math 530
Critical Reading 560
Writing 540
Multiple Choice 55 (score range: 20-80)
Essay 7 (score range: 2-12)

Not too good, no excuse really but i wasn't feeling good. However if they drop the writing that isn't good either, Im pretty sure they do something to the score however.

At any rate im taking it again in May, then again in June (ie as many times as i can).

As for colleges, I do really want to go to Tech, but UVA is a good alternative i would think. According to collegeboard IIRC my math scores are in range (barely), and my crit reading scores are a little below. Well, ill bring it up next time.

-Kevin

Unless you have outstanding ECs and a very good GPA, you will not be getting into Virginia Tech with those scores, let alone UVA. My friend, who was a 3 sport all-county athlete (some clubs on the side), with a 1370 SAT and a very good GPA got flat out rejected from UVA.

You MUST raise those scores.

i signed up well in advance but do to myself being a stupid HS kid the night before was another story

i deceided it was a good idea to go to a party, at said party i drank in the area of 15-20 beers, chugged about 1/2 a 5th of soco 110, and smoked weed and opium, this all between 9-12

thats what i recall doing, i blacked out here and there and dont remember it all
i got home and went to bed, that lasted all of about 20 min seeing as i then needed to vomit

i was found lying on the bathroom floor in a large puddle of puke, i was so out of it i couldent even hold myself up to puke in to toilet, my sister and her BF who were in colled had to do it for me,

i puked for like 4-5 hours, finally got to the point where i was finished with that at like 6am, got into bed sorta slept for like an hour and a half, got up at 730 and was driven to the sats,

the world was still spinning at this point, seeing as i was still drunk and high on opium while taking the test i just had to stop for a bit because the words on teh page were danceing

finished the test and all that,

ended up getting a 1280

For some reason, this seems tough to believe. I don't even know how you woke up!

why would anyone lie on the internet?

I call BS. Not because I dont believe you could do that while under the influence of drugs, but instead because you cannot spell the words:
DUE
DECIDED
im not sure what COLLED is
COULDN'T
DANCING

If you did indeed make a 1280 it was either
A) Mostly in the mathematics section, or
B) Prior to the total melting of your cerebral cortex due to extreme drug abuse

Interestingly, while high school grades used to have a higher correlation with university grades over 4 years than SAT scores did, that's no longer the case.

Since education has become more and more a preparation towards a single set of standards (it might even be said geared towards standardized testing) the two (SAT and GPA) should begin to have a more and more similiar correlation - especially once a national set of standards to teach are implemented. If the DOE had its way standardized testing would BE education.

How did it rape you? Did you not know anything about computers before going and were left in the dust?

i worked on computers at home and did a programming class in high school....the programming was fun but overwhelming...they chaged to java from C++ and math raped me even though high scool math was a breeze

if the SAT's don't keep you out of your college of choice then pay no attention to them what so ever.

Get a 1530 like me and go someplace better

I honestly don't understand how people get below a 1100. I scored a 1200 in the 7th grade. Sure some problems involve actual basic math skills and vocab knowledge, but 70% of it is stuff you should know regardless of your grades or school ability.

the national average is still like 1030

the reason peopel score below 1100 is because
1) they arnt as smart as you
2) schools are different thety dont all teach teh same thing
3) some people are horrid test takers

the SAT is in NO way a measure of ones intellegence, its a measure of how well people take standardized tests, i know plenty of people that are much smarter then I that did much worse on the SAT then I did,

My friend Brett graduated 4th in our college class with a GPA of like 3.95 (physics Major) and he got a 1050 on his SATs

our college didnt require SATs on the admission form because they dont use them in anyway to determin admission, submitting them is compleatly optional
I disagree, I think the SAT is a strong indicator of ones raw brain power. Thus the reason why some of my genius friends scored 1570+ while other friends scored in the 1300's when both take the same classes and get the same grades.
What is learned past 9th grade has very little, if anything, to do with the problems on the SAT. Regardless, the level of profeciency required to score an 1100 is minimal.
Your friend Brett might do well in school, but if after multiple attempts at the SAT he can only muster a 1050 this would be a fair indicator that he has a strong work ethic, but uses things other than ability alone to learn and apply knowledge. The other problem might be that as a physics major he was decent on the math portion, but struggled heavily in reading comprehension and English.
In conclusion, if you have any ability, or even the patience to do a few practice tests and prep books, the SAT is a gift. Get a good score and your 3 hours of bubble filling can help you just as much as the 3 semester of English you suffered through.

The fact that you cannot properly format a post for readability makes me seriously doubt your intelligence, your penis size, and makes me hate you more than I already do. I already hated you because of your smug insolence and grandstanding, but to be bragging about SAT scores? Christ-a-mighty-God, dude -- who cares what your SAT is? That's High School sh!t, and is in no way shape form or fashion indicative of how successful you will be or how smart you are.

Anyway, I too struggle to understand how 1000 is the average, but then I realize not everyone is a skilled test-taker, has great verbal skills, or even gives a flying fvck. For the record, I didn't have a low score, so don't even try that argument on me, I just find it to an utterly worthless indicator of your human worth. Properly formatting a post counts more in my book than a freakin' 1530 on the SAT.

Furthermore -- from a later post of yours:

Because the bonus points you can earn by going to class add onto a base score you are getting because of intelligence. A realy smart kid, and a rich noob who both take a prep class may both get 50 extra points, but the smart kid will go from a 1450 to a 1500 and the noob from an 1100 to an 1150....
Hell the smart kid will probably utilize the class more effectively and get more point. I scored a 1400 at the end of sophmore year so after having had a first look at it was able to get familiarized and boost myself 130 points.

In the end the SAT is a gift, can get you great scholarhsips, get you into schools that would not have been able to pick you out based on your grades, and can even help enhance your resume. A good friend of mine was a Nation Merit Scholar and got a full ride plus 10k a year stipend to attend Texas @ Dallas which he chose over Ivy League Columbia because of 3 hours of #2 penciling. A great deal in my mind

Pretty evident that your "1530" isn't applicable to spelling, basic grammar, or knowing what the fvck you are talking about. Specifically the whole UT@Dallas thingie, but I can't ignore not being able to spell sophomore -- that's hilarious. BUWHAHAHAHA. Perhaps you mean UT, as in their main Austin campus? If someone turned down an Ivy to go to UTD they are not only a moron, but should be euthanized for the sheer benefit of mankind as well as having all related family members beaten -- even the pet dog. You can have your derrière back anytime you so wish.

No, I meant UTD. Not only is my friend doing well in school, he is warmer, doesn't have to get a part time job to pay for class, doesn't have to graduate with tens of thousands in debt, and was able to make the wrestling team.
I am not grandstanding by saying I got a 1530. Perhaps you consider it grandstanding because in your eyes scoring a 1530 is a high mark of achievement and holds more value than it does for me?
I can't quite put my finger on why you would resurrect this thread at 6 am to harangue me about my shortcomings over what I thought was an amicable discussion of test that everyone here has taken or will take.

I would say the exact opposite.

Based on what? Your alleged brains? This is the consensus of a body of research on this subject, not a pubescent nerd who has nothing better to brag about than the SATs.

Based on the first year of college being about get acclimated to independent living, taking large lecture style classes, and responsibility (or lack thereof) to do ones work.
Thus, your brain power holds little value compared to your social skills.
I find it funny that you call me a nerd when I have very little interest in math or science. Further, I've got a hell of a lot more to brag about than my SAT scores, but like I said earlier it is only bragging if you find it especially remarkable.

1530 isnt remarkable to me, but that doesnt mean you're not bragging about it. Even someone who scored less than 1100 is smart enough to know that you are a fvcking idiot that tries to get laid by showing off his SAT score.

grow some hair on your balls, and maybe then you will realize that SAT's dont measure sh!t.
