How do I get the BIOS to recognize the SATA drive? It tells me to hit tab to get to the screen, i did that, and nothing else happens
It tells me to move the arrows up and down to select the options, but nothing happens. I'm not sure how to change things because it won't let me, and it's pissing me off.

I use the Promise controller. The red sata connectors. I suggest you use these as well. 1st off, did you install the "third party scsi/sata" drivers with a floppy while installing WinXP (F6 prompt)? Must do this 1st. If so then > Go into your BIOS > Advanced > Onboard Devices Configuration > Onboard Promise Controller [ENABLED] > Operating Mode [ONBOARD IDE OPERAT] Your SATA drive will be recognized upon reboot.

You can try enabling like I stated b4 and see if it works, but I doubt it will. Go to http://www.asus.com/support/do..._100104528.zip~zaqwedc
and download this driver to a floppy. During your install of WinXP it will ask you if you have any third party scsi drivers to install where you will then hit F6. You will be prompted to insert your floppy (with the promise driver you just dnld'd). Then aft WinXP installs reboot and go into your BIOS and apply the settings I mentioned earlier.

HA! If dowlowding it onto a mac disc would work or if there is anything I can do on a mac to make it readable on my pc.

-I guess I could go next door and ask the neighbors if they have a PC, but it is a pretty rural area, and I might get shot.

AGHGHAGAHAGH!!!! It's not letting me hit the f6 button at windows startup!!! I've tried everything, tapping it, holding, even praying for it to work, yet it doesn't let me load the drivers!! What's up with that!

my last computer was stolen (apt break in in boston), so I decided to try and build a new one and learn something in the mean time. unfortunately, i'm learning that I have a shorter temper than I originally thought!

edit: Also, I am pressing f6 on install, it still won't register for some reason.

AntiVirus software will interfere with dnld's. You disable the AV? Just dnld it with AV off and reformat your HD and insert it aft you hit F6 when it prompts you to. It will work.

No, since I don't have another pc here, I drove to my buddy's place, 20 mins down the road, downloaded the file, put it on a floppy, and there is an error for some reason.

Also, during install, when I hit f6 at the prompt, nothing happens, but if I hit f2, it goes to the reinstall page immediately, I have no Idea why it does this, except that maybe my new computer just doesn't like me.

You dont hit F6 until it asks (look at bottem of blue screen) if you have any "third party scsi" drivers to install. You been to your BIOS and change those settings I told you about?
